Agreed, it's a very intriguing scenario. I was thinking about that as well. And what if Bivol went on to beat Beterbiev / Joe Smith first then moved down at 168 to fight Canelo. We could have 2 Different weight classes Undisputeds being on the line in a single fight. That would be INSANE lol. Apparently the last time two Undisputeds fought each other was in 1974 when Undisputed Middleweight Champ Carlos Monzon fought Undisputed Welterweight Champ Jose Napoles in 1974, but that was fought at Middleweight. This could be an actual Undisputed vs Undisputed if Bivol unifies LHW first then moves down.
I agree partially with you here. the issue for me is that he could have easily fought Andrade and Charlo well before now. This is the issue I have with some of the fanboys is that he would have cleared out 160 and 168 taking out all the top guys. whether it's Canelo or his team there's clearly fights he was less keen on and could have aged out the guys at Light Heavy. I think he will rerun it at 175 so even if the judges can't shaft Bivol (which they probably will next time out) he still has the belts at 168. I just can't see him risking the 168 belts as I've already explained. It's not like Bivol is a big guy at 175 so I just don't see him being that drained at the weight and Ginger would still need to fight him again at 175 to get that belt anyway. Canelo's team were happy to take Bivol because they knew he wouldn't have the power to take Canelo out. this really just gives more time to age Beterbiev out which is exactly why they were reticent with fighting GGG originally saying he was to big which was clearly nonsense.
Can you do this? I thought the whole point of Canelo fighting Usyk at 201 was that he couldn't fight for heavyweight belts below that
Not sure what the rules are or what they're supposed to be but the WBA did the double division belt thing for LSC vs Tank. If they did it for Tank I'm sure they would do it for Canelo. In Usyk's case he has a unified title, perhaps the IBF or WBO aren't willing to play ball. Or it could be because Canelo doesn't have a CW strap to being to the table or perhaps Canelo/Eddie/whoever floated the idea hadn't gamed out every scenario possible.
I don’t think Bivol is wise to fight Canelo in a category where Bivol has never fought as a professional boxer; and in the category in which Canelo is undisputed champion.
Genuinely would favour Bivol at 168 to do the job, he can easily make the weight and wouldn't be drained. But if Canelo does win, then he can't have any credit since Bivol would obviously be drained.
Canelo would probably demand a rehydration clause this time and have the fight take place in Guadalajara
I dunno man, when there's a lot of money on the line, the cash cow should be able to dictate, as in "with the rehydration clause you x amount of extra money". Especially as at 168 those are Canelo's belts. I'd rather see Canelo face 40yo GGG first then fight Bivol after
Nah Canelo should be able to dictate ****. He lost Bivol, he will dance to Bivols tune if he wants that rematch.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but has a champion ever dropped down to a lower division to fight for a title? By that I mean a guy established at a weight and not a I grabbed a strap and went back to my division guy.
