Why couldn’t Canelo do this to Bivol?

Because Alvarez was tired. That bodyshot he gave Bivol has no force in it whatsoever.

Alvarez cannot fight when he's tired...props to Bivol for upping the pace and testing Alvarez conditioning.

 

Because Bivol is leagues above Liam Smith.

 

Bivol has a tight guard, is a great counter puncher, and has fast hands for a 175-lber. His punches are very sharp and crisp and he doesn't leave openings for Canelo to counter easily when he punches like other fighters do. He punches quick, and returns his gloves back into blocking position right away covering most of his body which leave very small windows for counter punches.

 

That wasn’t the first bodyshot on Smith from what I remember. Canelo wasted a lot of offense on Bivols arm. His best punches were to the body but he didn’t go down there nearly enough.
