At 0:40 sec Teddy Atlas tells Moorer exactly what is going to happen.

This is the real reason Moorer was so salty and bitter. He refuses to admit that Foreman set him up and got him to stand right in front of him like he said he would. Atlas knew it too. Moorer got too confident and underestimated Foreman pressing the issue instead of maintaining his lead and fell right into the trap. He lost fair and square. It wasn't a lucky shot at all.

 

Well,, that punch from Foreman did actually come, right back from 1974!!
So I'm surprised that Moorer didn't see it coming!?!

 

I can only think Moorer foolishly thought Foreman couldn’t hurt him with that punch.
Foreman must have landed it a dozen times previously in the round and Moorer shrugged it off.
He seemed to be in denial about the potential damage it could do.

 

Old news. Atlas also predicted Tyson quitting by fouling out against Holyfield a day before the fight and even covered biting. Bit of a prophet now and then wasn't he. He was wrong that foreman would follow up with combinations tho, he didn't have to LOL

"He's going to get himself disqualified," Atlas told reporters. "He'll bite Holyfield. He'll butt him. He'll hit him low. He'll do something if he don't get him early with a lucky shot.

"I know this guy. He's got this all set up in his mind. The way out. That's the only way he can face it. That's what this is all about."

 

Foreman was grilling and tenderizing Moorer. Gave him a false sense of security. Foreman had learned from his mistake in the Stewart and Morrison fights wherein he had hurt his opponent early with powerful blows and scared them so they backed off and used lateral movement. In the Moorer fight, Foreman took the opposite approach and took his time building up damage bit by bit until he was absolutely certain he could throw with full force and not risk Moorer shaking off the cobwebs and running to a points win. He was simply too slow to chase after guys for the follow up.

It's possible he could have KOd Moorer early, but if Moorer got up from the knockdown and survived, Foremans chances at winning would decline rapidly with each round. Too risky to go for broke early on, plus he didn't want to burn through his gas tank. Every heavy hitter should study Foremans 2nd career thoroughly.

I got into a bitter argument with somebody during that fight, as we were watching it live. He said Foreman was getting plastered, I said Foreman was waiting for the bait and switch. Huge argument, with bad blood, in front of everybody else there. He thought he was king ****, until the 10th round.

 

was in the navy and out at sea when this went down. had a gentleman's bet of $1 with a shipmate. he kept saying that "moorer was going to knock the old man's -ss out!" i said that moorer could win just by boxing and moving. BUT, he will get stupid and stand right in front of him for a moment and big george will flatten him.
next morning, he hands me the $1 and says "happened exactly how you said it would."

 

Protip: don't stand with hard hitters.

 

I still remember Teddy Atlas angering his colleagues in the commentator box while commentating on a televised boxing match, he kept on saying Cus D Amato said this and that. Finally one of his fellow commentators got appeared annoyed, the commentator simply changed the subject. I cannot recall that particular fight but it was apparent that Atlas kept mentioning D Amato and annoying the commentators.

 

It sounds good, but he typically picks underdogs and loses badly.

 

Well he certainly looked brilliant in these two statements. Picking Tyson to quit and nominating biting as one of the outs is leagues above picking an underdog. Amazing really.

It really shows the underrated skill & savvy of Foreman-& how tough & confident he was to absorb the punishment necessary, undeterred, to make it work.

Not 1 seconds before Foreman set up the death blow Atlas was screaming at Moorer not to stand it in front of him.
Moorer was heedless, prideful, & was set up so well the whole fight.
Yes GCB is correct about how MM was too embittered to admit how he was played so Masterfully.
But this was no lucky punch; & at neat 46 Foreman could still hit like a freakin' Truck.
