Well his birth name was Ihetu, not sure how he became Tiger ?
Also on nicknames, and also a 70s champ, when did Olivares acquire the " El Maus " tag ? not in any fight reports I ever read, and I read quite a lot from 69 to 76 , strange... stay safe buddy.

I read while ago that he was fighting in some barracks in Nigeria and was leaping to throw his punches, someone said he was tenacious like a tiger and the rest as they say is history, whether that is fact or myth i cannot verify.

Read the same thing. I'd say he had a nickname as much as Jersey Joe did.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler? I mean... he did legally change his name to that, thus not being a nickname anymore.

Ive already had three people reply with different nicknames for him, but I feel like I've actually heard this one from somewhere...

I grew up reading Boxing Illustrated in the 1960s and "Madcap Maxie' popped into my head. In my quiet time when I have absolutely nothing to do, like when I'm lying in bed, I sometime think about fighters and even other athletes from past eras and catalog in my mind the nicknames they have had. Heavyweight champs are probably the ones I re-visit most often.

You are right, I don't think that Ron Lyle had a nickname.

Roy fought amateur around my area a lot and he was always called Roy Junior. Which I don’t consider a nickname. His dad, of course, was known as Roy Senior.

I don’t think the splendid Brian Mitchell had one.

If he had it would have been translated into more languages than most any in history as much as he had to travel to defend his crown.

I don't know about professionally, but, personally, I know we all called him 'Shecky.'
