Very similar career paths for these two. Both have chosen to hang out down the road (Mehico and southwest US for Zurdo, Wales and Manchester for Zaggers) for the entirety of their careers. Both are sitting on the WBO belt making unmemorable defenses in the darkness against C level opposition. Both are volume punching southpaws without much power (or close to zero power in Calslappers case). Zurdo is pretty close to the resume of Calzaghe at this point. All he needs is for Canelo to go up to HW, get KO'd 3 or 4 times, come back down to LHW, and eke out a narrow points win over him. Maybe narrowly outbox the 45 year old ghost of Beterbiev too (getting knocked down in the process, of course). If he did this, I'd place him slightly above Calzaghe. Is Zurdo on course to pass Slappy Joe, or will he need to do something dramatic like beat Bivol and go undisputed at SMW or LHW?
Got a dog named Zurdo. Pet him three or four times a month. Feed him less. He lives free, in the wild, lives like a king. King Zurdo, Lord of the primeval dogwoods of the Dakotas. He's a pug.
Wow horrible post. 69% ko ratio is hardly feather fisted. In fact Joe had good power before busting his mitts up. Oh and he did have his last few fights in the States so that's nonsense. Also to many is the GOAT at Super Middle or at least top 3. Finished his career going up in weight and beat two other ATG (although Jones jr was past prime) and finished his career undefeated. That's what's called a false equivelence and shows you really should log off for being a noob.
Umhhh.. there are similarities I suppose, the thing with Ramirez tho is I don't think people are ducking or pricing themselves out like the likes of Collins, Bhop etc were with Joe.. he is just seemingly content to cruise along.. & Calzaghe came good in the end , beat the unified champion Kessler in impressive fashion. Ramirez is yet to do that .. Nice try though, I'll give you 6 out of 10.
Zurdo...heavyweight. Calzaghe....SMW/LHW. Zurdo......slow feet, slow hands. Calzaghe...fast feet, fast hands.
Unless we're talking about SMW's who hung on to a WBO strap while the future greats of the division battled it out elsewhere.
Still nonsense though. Fought an undefeated and prime Kessler to unify after clowning Ring and IBF champ Lacy.. So the only other "Champ" was Otke who stayed at home and cooked the books. see Reid fight as an example. So taking that into account what are all the future champs are you talking about? Considering by the time the Super happened Joe was retired... I mean really Slyk this is very poorly thought out.
Haven't followed Zurdos career but your post has generated my interest as I was always a huge Calzaghe fan... Gotta call you out though just implying that Calzaghe only win of note was against the chin checked Roy Jones and a run of C level fighters .. At the domestic level he had good wins over an older Eubanks, and undefeated prospect Robin Reid, both of whom were above C level.. On the world stage he beat Lacy, Kessler, and B Hop, all of them A level fighters, one of them ATG level, and two of them undefeated at the time, and yes the win over Jones.. That's a pretty damn decent career if you aks me, and can't blame him if he fought most of his career at home when those boys are selling out 60thousand plus seat arenas over there in the UK... No fights in the US come close to that. Also, Monzon stayed his whole care protected in his own backyard and nobody bats an eye about it
Froch & Bute probably .. neither man had a title at the time or were on the radar of anyone really, they were relatively young unknown prospects who hadn't even been pro long .. so he's talking **** .. Calzaghe easily beat his rival title holders.. Kessler & Lacy.. quite literally ruined one of them as well.. he also did a number on men like Brewer, Mitchell, Reid, Woodhall etc.. solid fighters.. don't buy the Reid hype, he soundly defeated him , its on YT, had some shaky middle rounds but overall it was clear .. ****ed his hand up in that fight as well..
Agree and Froch was always salty about Joe but the fact is Carl was only British Champ when Joe was getting the bigger fights against Hopkins and Jones at Light Haevy. I like Froch as a fighter but Joe beats him with skill and speed on points. As for Bute again by the time Bute got the IBF Joe was already at Light Heavy. So for me that only holds water if Joe stayed at Super Middle and fought for another year for that overlap. Joe fought who he could and would have got robbed by Otke Just like Reid did. Yeah he could have gone on the road sooner but those same people are silent when Ward does the exact same thing. so that's just hypocrisy when it's selective.
This made me laugh. But in all seriousness, there are a few similarities. I was once expecting big things from Ramirez.
Joe had a good career, but it could and should have been a lot better, even if he’d have suffered the odd loss. I wouldn’t say that Lacy and Kessler were A level fighters, but it depends how you personally rank guys. Yes, they were undefeated, but they hadn’t really beaten anyone of note beforehand. He stayed at home for the majority of his career, as he played it safe defending the WBO belt for a decade. And whilst his unification with Kessler was fought in front of thousands in Cardiff, most of his fights were small hall shows. The criticisms of Joe are valid. He was a great fighter but one who had no real ambition when he was younger. His WBO reign was very poor for a guy of his talents. But he was content to fight mostly low level guys in a weak division. Regarding Ramirez, hopefully he’ll have a positive end to his career like what Joe did.
