Oscar De La Hoya always comes to mind for me, but all others previously mentioned are well deserved too.

You could be very technical and analyse who used the hook to best advantage, how they worked it in and how it complemented their other punches etc.

I won’t do that - I’ll just nominate the guys whose left hooks I’m most prone to watch on replay - among them, Dempsey, Louis and Frazier - and Frazier was really a left hook savant while JD and JL had and used equally formidable power in the other hand.

So, naturally you’ll see Frazier employing the hook far more often - so not just in terms of quality but also frequency - would that make Joe the greater left hooker? Perhaps but it really depends on your own, personal criteria - Just IMO, I like a rounded, high quality arsenal overall with at least one money punch if not more.

Though I will add that it seemed that Joe Frazier did employ and integrate a nice right hand later in the piece.

Well thought out synopsis ( not surprising ) and one of which concur, Frazier used his hook to debilitating effect, whether to head or body, maybe not so much employed by Louis, who seemed to favour the head over the body, that said, the 3 hooks landed on Bear in a matter of seconds was something special, Foster has a howitzer of a hook, then again only to head in the main, same could be levelled at JCC or Ward on balance, so yes, in my eyes Joe is pretty much the standard bearer for left hookers.
BTW if you like your quota of left hooks to the body, catch Magris win over Mercedes for the title, I was there and shouted myself hoarse. keep em coming buddy, you enrich the forum. stay safe.

Thanks Mike. Back at you. The triple hooks on Baer? Sublime. Despite being ultimately KO’d, Max still showed an awesome chin - Louis spared him nothing. I’ve always liked Louis’ KO hook on Lee Ramage - like a camera flash, literally, if you blinked, you’d miss it and be left wondering why Ramage was suddenly laid out on the canvas - perhaps causing you to misguidedly shout - “fix”! LOL. . I will check out the fight you recommended - cheers.

I don't know. It was so effortless. I have not seen a left hook like that often. I have seen one like Julian Jackson against Buster or Ray against Davey Boy Green. Hagler had that leaping left hook which started things off, even Matthew Hilton had a great left hook. Joe Frazier. all different. Bob Foster, but Donald just reached out there and didn't wait for Milton to fall into it, in a way very similar to the one he was hit with by Mike McCallum. It was almost odd how that happened. He almost got back what he gave to Milton.

I’ve always had a soft spot for this Asian street boxer’s left hook. I believe he undertook to use one hand - the left. And he did. The precursor to the money punch is when he taps his own chin with his right glove. Enjoy!

Norris had a great left hook and doubled and tripled up on his hook too, he also had a good right hook, he threw left and right hooks in combination like Louis.
