I did look at the seating plan earlier in the week & it seemed like there were large blocks of tickets available in all seating areas. What I found a little surprising was that the stadium is configured for full capacity. When Kostya Tszyu defended the Undisputed Light Welter championship there in 2003, the stadium was configured for half capacity. Maybe even a bit less than that. That fight drew 28,000 which is the second most ever to attend a fight in Melbourne. The Jeff Fenech v Azumah Nelson rematch drew 36,000 at Princess Park. It's going to be a good show & will do well locally on PPV & Internationally I reckon. Numbers through the gate on the day will be interesting but I wouldn't be writing the promotion off just yet. Plenty of Kiwis along with Greeks in Melbourne & the undercard is loaded with some of their best talent. I'm really looking forward to it. I predict a great day for Australian boxing & George to go Undisputed. Probably by kayo. The fight has a Robbie Peden v Nate Campbell feel about it to me. Not much of a crowd that night but Bomber took care of business.
I think he was and is popular…it’s just that no one even knows the fight is happening. I think the promoters have really let them down. It has appeared nowhere on TV, in adverts in chat shows or online here. Just nothing at all. Not even sure if Haney is even here yet or not.
He arrived yesterday morning & the media covered it. He & his team did brief interviews at the airport. https://www.foxsports.com.au/boxing...s/news-story/793cb9ff13efef8e11843696f067d17e
Facts, Kambosos was an absolute nobody before he fought Teo, then he beat Teo and he’s now only slightly less of a nobody. He deluded himself into thinking he’s a massive name that can sell out a stadium like Canelo or Fury LOL
Nate Campbell sure did get the best Peden twice! Very premature stoppage that night but Robbie was all over him. Just had a quick Kambosos- Haney ad on the AFL friday night footy.
Is sad in Aus for how they promote. A 40 year old rugby player that switches to boxing gets daily headlines when they have a fight. If your last name is Tszyu and yet to win a chook raffle let alone a belt from Cosco it's daily headlines if they are in the crowd to watch a fight.
Not sure if they are doing a bad job... On our Ringwalks app, the Kambosos vs Haney fight is on track to become the fourth most popular fight since we launched the app, right after Fury vs Wilder 3, Fury vs Whyte & Bivol vs Canelo.
Going to text my Aussie cousins in Dandenong and ask them if they know about it. Will check back when they respond.
It's just not that big of a fight. But given how little they've invested and Haney's trainer issues I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel. Also **** the Australian government
Just had a text from one of my Aussie cousins....not much media coverage in Melbourne. Gotta fill a big stadium...over 50,000... so they better get it going.
