    Glad you watched it!

Those two were made for each other. The thing that’s difficult to score with them is that Dorsey is a non-stop wind-up doll but a lot of his punches don’t have much impact despite the volume. Paez fights in spurts but he’ll throw out a three- or four-punch combo with a lot more mustard on it and stop Troy in his tracks when he does throw … does that offset 10 or 15 or more of Dorsey’s less impactful shots or do you go with the volume?

It makes for a great fight and for a great discussion/debate.

(Also, Paez’s barber was either the most overpaid or underpaid barber in hair-cutting history. Like the scoring, it’s subjective, haha.)

I’d also recommend Paez-Louis Espinoza for a different kind of contrast in styles.

John John Molina v Wilson Rodriguez (jr. lightweight title)

I had read somewhere that this was a terrific fight. And it was to a point. However, Rodriguez was content to counter, whereas Molina's attack was furious. He was like a whirlwind in every round and it reflected on my card. I won't bother running a card here because I only gave Rodriguez a share of the 8th round for a 90-82 score (actual scores: 90-81 and two scores of 88-83 all for Molina) through 9 completed rounds. I wish the film was sharper, however, but it is what it is.

The fact that I laughed out loud at Troy Dorsey (and his orchestra) lets me know how old I truly am. Thank you for that. :ibutt You are absolutely correct about Paez. He was always great entertainment and a solid, give you your money's worth fighter.

D, checked this out this morning. Oh, man, this was just an unbelievably good old-fashioned club fight.

Artur Szpilka v Mike Mollo I

    Round 1: 10-8 Mollo (scores a knockdown)
    Round 2: 10-9 Spzilka
    Round 3: 10-9 Szpilka
    Round 4: 10-8 Mollo (scores a knockdown)
Round 5: 10-8 Spzilka (Spzilka's round and Mollo loses a point for pushing down on Spzilka)
    Round 6: Spzilka KOs Mollo

Total through 5 completed rounds: 46-46 Even (actual scores: 46-46, 47-46 Spzilka and 47-46 Mollo)

Again, just a good old-fashioned club fight that was highly entertaining. Mollo appeared to require surgery by the 2nd round on those cuts. A funny sidenote was while watching this I kept thinking that Spzilka reminded me of someone with the bald head, pointed nose and tattoos. Then I remembered Jim Henry (Robert Tessier) from 'Hard Times'. Classic Bronson. Thanks for the shoutout to this one, D.

I normally score fights on the cleaner harder punches, but this is one of those fights were clearly quantity beats quality, theres no way Dorsey didn't deserve victory here. I think it's most punches ever landed in a fight without winning, imagine not winning a fight after landing 620 punches on the other guy.

Jorge Paez vs. Louie Espinoza I

    1 Espinoza
    2 Paez
    3 Paez
    4 Paez
    5 Espinoza
    6 Espinoza
    7 Paez
    8 Paez
    9 Espinoza
    10 Paez
    11 Paez
    12 Paez

    116-112 Paez

Just watched this on based on your recommendation to Philly.

So i was speaking earlier how Paez got a gift vs Dorsey, well in this fight Paez was very hard done by. Yes it was a very good fight and a competitive one, but i thought it was a pretty clear win for Paez, he clearly landed the harder more eye catching punches for most of the fight, Espinoza would land some solid punches and win some rounds when Paez would take rounds off. But to me Paez could up the pace whenever he wanted, and whenever he did choose to open up. Paez would clearly have the last word in the exchanges with the cleaner harder shots.

Both men were cut Espinoza on the bridge of his nose and Paez on his eye, but Espinoza was alot more busted up and marked up. And i think that tells the story of Paez landing the better punches, Espinoza got a gift in his hometown not the worst decision i've seen because it was competitive. But i don't see how you can't have Paez winning this one his punches were so much more impactful.

Jorge Paez VS Louie Espinoza II

    1 Espinoza
    2 Espinoza
    3 Paez
    4 Espinoza
    5 Espinoza
    6 Paez
    7 Paez
    8 Paez
    9 Paez
    10 Paez
    11 Espinoza
    12 Paez

    115-113 Paez

So watching the rematch after seeing the 1st fight earlier, i thought the fight was closer than their 1st meeting. Due to the fact it took Paez a while to get going in the 1st half of the fight, Espinoza was boxing nicely at range. And Paez didn't quite seem to have the fire he had in their 1st meeting.

But the tide started to turn in the 6th round and by the 7th round, Paez had now started to fight like he did in their 1st fight. As he now started fighting aggressively and landing the harder punches. With a fight like this you have to watch closely, although Espinoza does land his fair share of punches. It's always Paez that for me that lands the more eye catching punches, and i prefer the harder cleaner effective punches from Paez.

Overall i can see a case for Espinoza winning this fight, he had a lead in the early going. And the 6th round was kind of close, and there's an argument he possibly won 2 rounds after that although i didn't think so, i only gave him the 11th in which Paez decided to clown and give the round away.

Overall it was a decent fight i didn't think it was as good as their 1st meeting, but i did think it was closer and Espinoza had a better case for winning. But i still think Paez pulled it out in the 2nd half of the fight.

    Jorge Paez vs. Rafael Ruelas

    1 Ruelas 10-7 2 knockdowns
    2 Paez
    3 Ruelas
    4 Paez
    5 Ruelas
    6 Ruelas
    7 Ruelas
    8 Ruelas
    9 Ruelas
    10 Ruelas
11 Paez doesn't come out for the 11th round doctor stops the fight, Paez nose is badly bleeding probably broken ?

    98-90 Ruelas

This fight was kind of strange in a way, the first 5 rounds are probably one of the most exciting 5 rounds you will ever see. Paez was floored twice in the 1st round, but rallied back in the 2nd round as the two men engaged in an amazing slugfest, Paez had Ruelas badly hurt in the 4th round, and seemed to be somewhat close to stopping him. But Ruelas to his credit came out for the 5th round with a non stop punching barrage, Ruelas must of thrown well over 100 punches in that round, it was an amazing display of workrate from him.

After those amazing 5 rounds the fight took quite a dip quality wise, not to say it was a bad fight after 5 rounds. But it was nowhere near the excitement that the first 5 rounds brought, i think the 5th round broke Paez a bit, as he seemed to go into a bit of a defensive shell after that and the fight became a bit one sided.

The 10th round was a very punishing round for Paez, as he up against the ropes eating uppercuts. And his nose was starting to look a mess as the blood poured out of both nostrils. I would say it was more than likely broken, and i think it was a good call not to send Paez out for the 11th round.

Overall it was a good fight the first 5 rounds were amazing. After that it became a bit one sided, as Paez became a bit defensive not willing to engage much. But the fight is definitely worth watching for the first 5 rounds alone.

D, I watched both of their bouts last year and noted on both of them that they were toughie's to score. You had Espinosa who fights so steady, whereas Paez explodes in spurts and bombs. A great fight to the fan, a nightmare to the judge. Ultimately, I had Paez winning their first fight 118-112 and Louie winning their second go-round 116-115.

I just love their contrast in styles.

Louie so long and angular with his straight-arrow punches and Paez an aggressive, compact clubber who throws really good, explosive combos.

D, getting around to this now. Let me just say, you didn't oversell it.

Mark Johnson v Alberto Jimenez (Penta-Crap flyweight title)

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 3: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 4: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 5: 10-9 Jimenez
    Round 6: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 7: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 8: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 9: 10-9 Jimenez
    Round 10: 10-9 Johnson
    Round 11: 10-9 Jimenez
    Round 12: 10-10 Even

Total: 117-113 Johnson (actual scores: 115-114 for Jimenez and a 115-113 and 115-114 both for Johnson by a split decision)

Again, wow! These two really put on a show. What a brilliant little fight between Johnson the sharp and agile boxer and Jimenez, the dogged banger. Thanks, again, D.

Not much I could add to this one other than to thank you and @George Crowcroft for putting this in my cross-hairs. Terrific 3 rounds. I would also suggest you guys check out the Brian Viloria v Edgar Sosa 12 rounder, which I think you'll enjoy.

You wanna find Szpilka’s separated-at-birth twin, look up Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo.

    Stevenson vs Valdez

A battle between the top two SFWs in the world and the class disparity was absolutely enormous.

Stevenson was that dominant that you to he a bit disappointed he didn't push for the finish and up the ante.

I gave Valdez 3,7 and 10. Shakur took everything else.

He was better than Valdez in every single department and absolutely outclassed him.

Viloria's fight with Estrada was really fun too.

    Estrada is current favourite fighter.
