Examples of when a fighter had their opponents number despite the opponent being a better fight. Better examples would be if they fought more than once.
Ken Norton - Muhamad Ali Junior Jones - MAB Vernon Forrest - Shane Mosley Sugar Boy Malinga - Nigel Benn Frankie Randall - Julio Cesar Chavez Jorge Castro - John David Jackson
Hm. How to phrase this properly. Let's use Iran and Hearns. Iran is the superior fighter between them two he is however not a more accomplished fighter. If you beat a guy fair and square you're plain as day his superior. That shouldn't sound too whacky.
Shig Kaneko - Flash Elorde Arnold Taylor - Romeo Anaya Lew Jenkins - Lou Ambers (end of career) Ishimatsu Suzuki - Rodolfo Gonzalez (end of career)
Never believed this Norton had Ali’s number crap. When they were both closest to their best Ali won by a clear margin and outclassed Norton in the first half of the fight. I’m also not among those who think Norton was robbed in the third bout with Ali. I’d sooner believe Frazier has Ali’s number than Norton does.
Willie Pep had Sandy Saddler’s number that one time but the other three fights show Saddler was the vastly superior guy.
Chavez maybe had the excuse of age/career mileage and I am with swagdelfadeel over Ali/Norton but the other four are thread ending examples, they are so good.
