Self-indulgent, dopamine triggering, ego boosting thread.

Break down and analyze the fighting style & system of your very favorite boxer. It can be a general overview, or insightful information regarding its less appreciated intricacies. Either way, share your knowledge.

I don`t have a favoutie but I like Usyk`s in and out movement, always either moving his feet or hands keeping his opponent guessing, Loma does the same thing but is a better combo puncher.

I like how Usyk controls his opponents with lead hand, and uses feints with his lead hand also.

I don't have favorite boxer, but I'd like to analyze GGG's style:

    • Blocks shots with his head.
    • Has zero head or body movement.
    • Terrible defence.
    • Doesn't care if he gets hit a lot.
    • Always tries to KO his opponents, and often succeeds. he can't box well.
    • Great power,
    • Great chin.
    • Someone with good head/body movement beats him easily.

I love Naoya Inoue's insane efficiency and the way he's ultra aggressive, yet extremely clinical. Unlike most guys, the man never cruises and always looks for the KO. His punch selection and placement is a sight to behold and he can drop/KO people with either hand upstairs and downstairs.

Which parts of my analysis are not true? GGG has no defence and get hits a lot. Has great power and chin.

Absolutely all of it. You have a poor eye for boxing. Golovkin has extensive amateur pedigree. And for those who possess decent observational skills they can see Golovkin's defense is extremely subtle but very good, efficient, effortless and highly underrated by loathsome casuals :

fleet footed combination puncher with an iron chin, heart for weeks, and enough defensive flaws to make many fights competitive and all of them exciting.

Boxing isn't all just running away and slipping.
GGG's punch placement is impeccable. He is really good at finding/making the holes in his opponents defense and landing the punch in the sweet spot. His balance is great and he stays in position to be offensive. I'd call that boxing well.

Classic case of a genius technician who let his ego get the better of him.

He somehow managed to produce/carry out brilliant gameplans for Bowe II, Tyson I and Lewis II yet also set a pace too high for him to sustain against Bert Cooper.

    Love Holyfield, though.

    Larry Holmes

I love how he fights behind the jab. He uses the basics unbelievably well and makes boxing look very easy

Mostly I love his jab and right cross. Great movement and his subtle little defensive movement up close. But mainly the jab!

Tough as old boots and could fight as well as box

Had the misfortune of following Ali then the emergence of Tyson overshadowed his work in the mind of casuals

I think if anyone wants to learn to box, especially bigger guys? Watch Larry

He’s comfortably one of my favourite fighters of all time. An absolute genius with power for a man a fraction over 8 stone that just defies belief.

He’s at a level now where most his opponents are beat before they get in the ring. Which only makes his fights all the more interesting to watch in my opinion. There’s no harder thing in boxing than chasing down an opponent who’s just trying to back off and run for the entire fight. Hunts them down and then rips vicious work in to head and body.

Can’t wait for the Donaire fight next week because he’s the only guy who’s come to fight with him in years.

Been struggling to find where or how to watch it in the uk though. Xx
