Was Mike McCallum the best body puncher of the 80`s and 90`s? The Modern Martial Artist This content is protected
No , McCallum wasn't the absolute best body puncher of the era. Though he is definitely in the top ten. Their was so many skilled body punchers During those years..... Duran, Arguello, Sanchez, Pedroza, Leonard, Gomez, Fenech, Hearns, Cuevas, Mosely, Trinidad, Tyson, Holyfield etc. I know McCallum's nickname was the " Body Snatcher" but their were many body punchers just as skilled during those years....... Just as skilled but hit harder.
Agree wholeheartedly, and of your very finute list, would have Pedroza very high, effortless body punching, no big wind up, no wide swings, just subtle, innocuous short smart deliverance, such a pity him and Sanchez didn't square off , and if they did, wouldn't surprise if Pedroza came away with a close MD. stay safe Flash.
I think Holmes was better than Ali and Foreman, he also had a simlar jab to Ali`s but longer, his style wasn`t anything like Foreman`s though so that was a stupid comment by the youtuber.
Leonard didn`t land consistently to the body like McCallum, neither did Mosley nor did he hit harder to the body, nor did Holyfield, if Duran had fought McCalum at 154 McCallum would have landed far more body shots, Duran worked the body well v Moore but I don`t think those bodty shots were better than McCallum`s at 154.
McCallum’s body punches were very precise. Here he puts on a clinic against an overmatched but game Randall Yonker. Breaks him down, puts him down with a body shot and then finishes him. This content is protected
How so? The video was pointing out that Larry uses framing, pushing, and guard manipulation like Foreman -- and he does, extensively in some fights. It didn't say that he hits like Foreman, or throws punches that look like Foreman's -- he doesn't. It said which specific techniques he uses that are like those Foreman used.
I don't know if Mike Tyson is a better body puncher (I'm not that good at boxing), but he was a terrible body puncher in this fight: This content is protected
Some good left hooks but McCallum was more consistent to the body and more two-fisted with his body attacks throwing combos downstairs etc.
No, McCallum threw more body punches and tyhrew combos to tyhe body too, I think you`re only rating Jones body punching high due to the Hill KO.
