So rather than take on Young, big George takes on Earnie Shavers.
Don't believe that Shavers had quite the ko rep at that time, so "perhaps Foreman doesn't see this fight as a potential losing one.

Any one think this is a winning fight for Shavers?

I make this one 65/35 in favour of George. Foreman had lost that aura of invincibility post-Zaire and he knew it,hence his hesitation in some of his fights circa 1976/77. He could still punch, though, and a fight with Earnie would be a slugfest. George was a two handed puncher as opposed to Shavers being a bit "right hand heavy" and had a better chin than 'The Acorn'

Foreman via tko by the sixth round after maybe briefly kissing the canvas, himself.

Foreman never lost against the Punchers in his "first career", nor did he lose by knockout in his "second career".
    So:
Ron Lyle could be a parameter, if possible without triangle theory.

I was gonna say, do you think this could be like Lyle verse Foreman.
It definitely could be, Stevie, imo.
I don't see George taking him out early, like Quarry, that's for sure.
Foreman had the better chin, but he'd get in to a slug fight and forget about defence.
He'd be surprised how hard Shavers hit I should imagine too.

Shavers didn't have Lyles chin, I give him a very slim chance here.

A freak occurrence (or more likley a succession of the same) might tip the scales in Shavers favor.

I imagine, if Shavers lasted long enough to land, Foreman would weather the storm.
However, Shavers would not be able to hold up against the retaliation from Foreman - unlike, say, Ron Lyle.

This. Earnie might make it 4. He might get lucky and knock George down early, though.

If it was 1973 when Jerry Quarry put out the lights on Earnie Shavers on Dec 14th in round 1, I will have to go for George Foreman, the pre Zaire version, his ego had not been dented yet.. George would have overwhelmed Shavers with a heavy smothering attack first.

If there's anyone Foreman beats every day it's Shavers. Everything Shavers does Foreman does better. Can't see him coming out on top.

Shavers greatest asset in this fight is not being well known for his power at the time, Shavers power would surprise Foreman and catch him off guard, but his advantages end there. I see it 80/20 in favor of Foreman.

Tbh I think his chin was much better than Lyle's. He stood in the trenches with him, and didn't budge. Not until he ran out of stamina at least.

Agreed. His power can pull off an upset win but its the difference in chins that decides it.

In a dog fight I give it to Foreman. If both men lose there senses we know George will ride it out to the finish. I don’t think much separates there power same with Lyle. It was Norton I read whom said they both hit about the same. So he’s gonna take the shots it might get messy, Foreman will stumble and stagger here and there but in a good fight scenario for Shavers where he lands some big ones he still comes out second best even if it looks like Foreman is drunk during the last punches that put him away.
