Was in response to someone saying Connor isn’t where he is because of Nigel which he most definitely is like Campbell Hatton
I didn't think he would get this far unbeaten. When he first stepped in the ring he looked like a guy who had never put on gloves before. Terrible coordination. Loading up constantly, getting tagged easily. Love him or hate him it can't be denied his improved greatly.
Beating world title challengers and a former WC. Benn was being slated that hw wasn't even like he would ever be area level at first and now he far surpassed that. To the point unless if he is not fighting a top 12 or so guy that people would slate it as an " easy fight". It's unquestionably that he shown dramatic improvement. Whether he is could enough to legit beat one of the top 15 guy (which I think he will fight next) or even become a WC ( unlikely unless the rumour of all 3 of Eniss, Spennce and Ortiz all move up as its the toughest divison in boxing) is a different story and time will gibe him tell
Having unlimited access to world class trainers and all the time in the world to train due to who your dad is gives you every chance of improving at a more rapid pace than the average teenager going to his local amateur gym
But that’s a largely mute point. He’s improved bucket loads, is game as a pebble and given he has no real necessity to fight the fact he’s so dedicated to the game should at least be acknowledged if not admired. It certainly shouldn’t be derided the way it is by most on here. I like him and hope he shuts a lot of people up. Can totally understand the dislike for him though. Got that insufferable twatty “you tryna mug me off” Essex boy accent that makes me want to poke him in the eyes right up to the knuckles.
Good fight this but Ortiz will beat him. Hearn and Matchroom will be praying Virgil wins so they can play the "Avanesyan is old news" card. Despite the fact he'll still be a huge danger to Benn. Yet they are happy to use the likes of Formella and Van Heerden when they've come off a loss to a big name. I doubt they'll be so quick to use Avanesyan coming off a loss in the same circumstances...
That's the thing, Benn at 25 years old 20 fights in has similar record of beating similar level of opposition to 36 year old Wilder 44 fights in. Wilder at a similar age and fights in to Benn now was fighting low level journeyman such as Marlon Hayes and Owen Beck lol.
And. He still had to train, still had to dedicate himself to the sport. Him being the son of Nigel Benn doesn't help him one iota in the ring.
Did you not get my point? It allows him access to world class trainers, sparring and he gets to make full use of his 24 hours a day due to being Nigel Benns son. It also landed him a matchroom contract when he was completely useless and is allowed to duck all of his domestic competitors and being matched extremely carefully against non punchers who are past their prime, and you don’t think he gets any privileges..
Spot on. Then you’ve got the likes of Maxi Hughes having to fit in training around a full day at work until very recently.
No I just don't think his where he is currently because of his father. He didn't choose who his dad was and even then we know boxing wasn't even a thing for Connor until late. Chavez Jnr is the son of an ATG yet with the same "privileges" it didn't stop him cutting corners, not training or eating right and living the life. I really don't get the hate for Benn. Has he stole the spot from someone else more deserving?
YES that’s my entire point mate, there are kids who have 10x the ability Conor Benn ever had who have probably gave up boxing before they even turned pro due to lack of opportunity etc, they didn’t get the privilege of a famous surname to get them on matchroom shows earning big money to fight absolute shite
