Why do some people try to claim Mike Tyson couldn't hang with today's "giants"?

It's not about the height, it's about the skill level. Tyson could beat a lot of today's big men but he would struggle with Fury and would have struggled with the brothers Klitschko for sure.

Wilder and Joshua vs Tyson would be interesting fights but they are definitely winnable for Iron Mike.

Why do yall keep saying today's era features a lot of Super Heavyweights. It doesn't. It's only 1 Super Heavyweight fighter. Tyson Fury. The rest either aren't that big compared to the fighters of Tyson's era or aren't good.

Why are we saying Wilder is a super heavyweight? Wilder was 212 lbs in the 1st Fury fight. Tyson was 220 lbs in his prime. That's not an advantage at all.

The other Super Heavyweight is Joshua who is 240 lbs and he got dominated by a 220 lbs Usyk.

No one else is big and good.

A prime 21 year old Tyson beats every heavyweight around today.

Its not even a debate in my mind. A prime Lennox Lewis batters them all too.

This era of heavyweights is one of the most overrated in my lifetime, it's just ridiculous.

The super heavyweight thing was just a nice easy way to pump up the Klitschkos domination of the era of tomato cans at heavy weight

It's funny, the fighter who holds 3 of the 4 heavyweight titles right now is probably one of the most underrated heavyweights aswell. It"s ****ing ridiculous how the boxing media is hailing Fury as the best thing sinced sliced bread. Theres a reason he want's none of Usyk.

Hahah Fury struggles with the smaller cunningham because of speed and would give iron mike fits?

Wlads grab and jab wouldnt work, vitali with his hands low leaning back.
Honestly they all get ko'd by late 80's Tyson.

Same for AJ and especially Wilder who is tailormade for him.

I agree on the first, would agree with the second minus the "battering" part (Usyk and a peak Fury are good enough not to get battered, these are not easy fights for even a prime Lewis) but disagree on the third.

HW today has Fury, Usyk, AJ, Wilder, and a number of decent contenders and up-and-coming fighters. E.g. looking at boxrec, Pulev is #10, Ajabga #20 and Makmudov #30, that's not bad in terms of depth.

I haven't done an exhaustive comparison but I think that's better than when Wlad was reigning unopposed, and prime Tyson was only reality for a short time.

Genuine question, do you think boxers can improve in 9 years time?

Of course, and he did but he also got tagged and droped several times by the one dimensional Wilder and even Wallin was landing a lot.

I think it wouldnt be an easy fight but I feel it ends with mike by tko.

Magically the HW division became bad when the Klitchkos took over. Imagine that.

The fact Lewis easily beat Tyson is one good reason why people might say he couldn't hang with modern SHWs. Because Lewis wasn't even as good as the Klitschkos, who would never get banged out by McCall. People are delusional about Lewis, but watching his sloppy fights it's obvious even AJ or Wilder would have a good chance of landing their bombs and beating him. Imagine thinking Rahman and McCall can bomb him out, even sluggers can hurt him bad, but AJ and Wilder couldn't land? Okay.

The real heights of a lot of those old fighters are way off I think. People lie even now, but it was worse in the past. Klitschkos are legit 6'5 at least, Fury at least legit 6'6, Wilder at least 6'5. They have massive reach and also speed and coordination. Wlad, for instance, did not look slow against Haye.

Also the clinch game is clearly more developed with these modern SHWs and if the big fighters train to clinch someone like Tyson, it will be very hard to do anything inside. Just ask Chisora or Povetkin how easy it is to get inside and hurt these big clinchers. And they are bigger than Tyson.

Finally, Tyson wouldn't have access to the same drugs now. Obviously PEDs still happen, but I doubt he would get away with the same industrial strength roids he clearly had back in the unrestricted days, and without those he isn't a lean 220lbs fighter at 5'10. Just lol if you think that's natural.
