For Earnie Shavers a fight against even post Zaire George Foreman is not winnable, if Jerry Quarry starched Acorn Earnie in one round on Dec 14 1973, then George could do it as well.

Alot of people bring up Ron Lyle, but always seem to forget the 2nd round was only 2 minutes long. And in that particular round, Lyle was badly hurt and on the verge of getting stopped.

I honestly think if that round would of been 3 minutes, then Foreman might of finished the job earlier without going through hell. With hindsight though I'm glad the round did finish early, as we got treated to an amazing slugfest.

I think 1976 was the worst year for Earnie Shavers to fight George Foreman.
That year (1976) everyone would fall: Ali, Shavers, Norton, ...
But I am not a manager, I do not contract fights, nor am I the president of any of the boxing federations.
    I'm just a boxing fan.

Foreman is too big. Foreman in the normal era was just too big for anyone. He punched too hard.. Against a Lennox or Bowe it would have been interesting.

Well as in most punchers, they have to land it. Some styles negate the power. Look how Hopkins negated the power of Tito with movement and positioning.. Marvin Hagler did not negate Hearns power, but took it and then put the pressure back. But his face showed he took it, and Hopkin's face did not. Which way is better? Well not taking it is better for longevity. Hagler didn't have too many fights after the Hearns fight, whether that had something to do with his longevity who knows.

Lawks ! Would have sold out anywhere. No real chance for Earnie here. Walk down and shoot out with Foreman ? No chance.

I disagree w all of you. Shavers was faster. Shavers was solid fundamentally. He was the straighter puncher. Shavers had a 79 “ reach and could jab. His chin was as good as Lyle’s , solid but dentable. Shavers got caught by Quarry because he thought him washed up and under rated him. If Shavers came into a fight with Foreman aware and respectful of Foreman’s power it’s a hell of an interesting round or two and for Foreman to win he would have to jab and be patient. If they threw down from the bell it’s 50/50.

Don't know about that. Quarry was not a big puncher & he BOMBED Shavers out inside a round. He was stopped by fringe contender Stander & was buzzed by Ellis (who was not a puncher) in the 1st before he stopped him. He is NOT going to beat George in a shootout, however this is his only chance of victory - as he was a very limited boxer...

Exactly. He can't beat Foreman going toe-to-toe - especially early...

I agree with most so far, Foreman by KO early-mid rounds in an absolute corker!

Shavers would have to be given a puncher’s chance. But as someone already mentioned, he wouldn’t have the durability to trade with Foreman for long.

Quarry was a very decent puncher and was fresh and Earnie fought dumb. Shavers gassed vs Stander. Ellis could crack as he showed dropping Bonavena twice ..

Can you see it being a fast blow out from Foreman?
Or is it more of a Foreman v Lyle type brawl?

Lol where was Shavers godly power against Bob Stallings, and Jerry Quarry?

Hell where was it against a much worse handicapped Ali?
