Jake LaMotta vs Carlos Monzon (15 rounder)

How big a stretch is it for LaMotta to beat Monzon? I never saw Jakey as inferior to someone like Benny Briscoe. Maybe Carlos turned in a bad performance when he had a draw with Bennie he certainly rectified his issues in the second bout. I don't know. How do you all see this? I think this is the type of fight Monzon had with Bennie in some ways. I imagine it'll be closer then his second bout with the Robot but "One man riot" LaMotta will lose, Probably, If you beat Robinson you're gonna be competitive with everyone with two hands that doesn't dwarf you.

 

I think LaMotta gets beat to a pulp. The size and reach advantage will be too much to overcome and he takes a lot of punishment from the bigger and more stylish Monzon.

 

I don’t think Monzon was the bigger guy. He’s a taller guy but Jake was a stump of a human being.

 

I don't disagree with your assessment of LaMotta. I just think the big reach advantage comes into play, especially for a guy who used the jab like Escopeta. I know LaMotta will get his licks in but I just think it's a bad style matchup for him and Monzon takes a wide but difficult points decision win.

 

LaMotta gets thrashed. He simply isn't on the same level and not at all the sort of dynamic performer that gave Carlos the slightest discomfort.

 

Bad style match up for LaMotta, Monzon would eat him up for breakfast. And might be one of the few fighters to stop him late on.

 

Monzon by comfortable decision. LaMotta is as tough as anyone but he just can't reach Monzon.

Carlos Monzon by TKO 14, tough fight early on for Carlos as Jake La Motta is no slouch but Monzon slowly wears him down in a battle of two former street fighters. Monzon keeps the distance with his left jab and counters well to the head and body.

 

Monzon stops him late. Maybe it's just a styles think but I see him takin too many hard punches from Carlos.

 

I think Lamotta can outwork Carlos for a points win.

It all depends on if Monzon can impose his will, but I do not think he has ever fought anyone as rugged and tough as Lamotta.

Lamotta is not getting knocked out or wore down, he will swarm and try to outpunch the great ring general. I think he has a good chance to do it.

Interesting comparison with Briscoe. I'd be tempted to say, you can't just wade into Monzon, he'll dismantle you. That first Briscoe fight does ask the question though doesn't it ?
I'm still going for Carlos but only just. His strength in the later rounds getting him to a close call.
