McGuigan was also a warrior. He would no doubt have been quite an underdog in a Nelson fight but he would n't have been scared. As for a fight between them? Nelson outboxes and stops Barry by around the tenth but the Clones man would have some good moments.

Spot on. Even the great Pernell Whittaker who outpointed him was waxing lyrical about Azumah.

I buy the position that "he only had 2 weeks to train" for Sanchez as he h as fought the previous month only a week before they
proposed this bout to him, so he wasn't out of shape at all. Certainly he could have used some time to get accustomed to Sanchez' style but then again neither did Sanchez have time to see Nelson in prior fights.

Anyway...he was a great fighter. Africa's best for sure.

McGuigan was a warrior and that would have been part of his problem because going toe to toe with Azumah is a receipt for disaster. The fight won’t have lasted up to 10 rounds because Barry would be stopped inside 4 or 5 rounds at most. Mickey Duff strongly advices Barney Eastwood privately not to make the match as Azumah would ruin Barry who was a money maker. Duff never forgot how Azumah with hardly any preparation gave the great Salvador Sanchez hell on earth and Barry’s style was ready made to order for Nelson. Pissed off Don King that Barry went on to lose to Steve Cruz for a fraction of what the Nelson fight would have generated.

A tragedy that Sanchez died so young. I reckon a second fight between him and Azumah would have been a classic.

If theres anyone who never watched and has a track record for being a liar is you. Claiming Nelson schooled Martinez lmao that in itself is proof you never saw the fight.

First one was a classic so the 2nd would have been frightening. Imagine the Nelson of 1984 who took the title of the great Wilfredo Gomez against Sanchez. One of the reasons that helps us appreciate the greatness of Sanchez was Nelson’s career. Think it was great Nelson went to Sanchez’s funeral but such is the dignity of the man that is what you expect from him.

Not every fight was filmed so youre lying again now you gonna tell me you were there live just like you say you managed fighters but cant prove or name one fighter you managed just like you say you trained fighters but you cant prove it or that Nelson is your uncle but you cant prove it either.

Youre nothing but a lying poser.

Nelson is as much your uncle as Jack Johnson is mine.

The Professor was one of my very favorites of the 80's and 90's. Skills, talent and fierce fighting instincts.

Barry’s plan before the Cruz debacle, was to move up to fight Wilfredo Gomez, whom was ripe for the plucking at that stage.
The strange Eastwood has other ideas, as he wanted to show off Herol Graham for a possible future match with Hagler, and took an injured McGuigan into a fight against a talented young fighter, whose style was completely different from McGuigan’s original opponent. I feel that fight may have ruined Cruz too.
