Gvozdyk's gas tank was depleting by round 8. The bodyshots Beterbiev sunk into him in earlier rounds paid off later on. Gvozdyk even feigned a hand injury to get himself extra rest time. His heart was already broken well before the finish.
You have the same feeling of an upset too right ? Thought i was the only one. I feel Beterbiev stylistically plays right into Joe Smiths hands
In terms of talent Beterbiev is the best at 175. He was apparently P4P No.1 in the amateurs, fighting a highly competitive trilogy with Usyk and mauling Hunter, both of whom were considerably taller, longer and heavier (even more so compared to Bivol) with mover styles. Bivol schooling Canelo was predictable, the only question was whether he'd get the decision.
I was listening how Bivol was talking about Beterbiev. he is not sure that he can handle his power and pressure for 12 rounds. That tells you a lot, even at his age
It really comes down to whether Beterbiev can clip Bivol or cut off the ring and unload the heavy stuff. Bivol is more than willing to serve up a snore-fest of a bout to prevent that from happening. To prevail, I think Artur is going to have to lay some big shots to Bivol's body to slow him up. He's had great success in doing that to opponents in the past, but Bivol is on a different level.
Once Beterbiev beats Smith, Artur will have three belts. Bivol is a cautious guy, but that's going to be an awfully-large fight to turn down in favor of, for example, giving Zurdo a boxing lesson or boarding a plane to fight Butasi and risk getting robbed of a decision. Artur is not young. He's certainly fit, but the calendar and the gruelling nature of training take their toll. Bivol's camp can probably drag out the negotiations to ensure that Beterbiev is 38 1/2 by the time the fight actually takes place.
Gvozdyk's resume wasn't very deep. He took the belt from Stevenson - who was an old knockout artist with a pretty well-known track record of cherry-picking his defenses - with Yunieski Gonzalez being the runner-up. But you really can't say that Beterbiev's resume was all that deep, either, at the time they fought. Callum Johnson is the standout with Radivoje Kalajdzic taking 2nd place. And Kalajdzic wasn't near the fighter he had been a couple years earlier when he lost a very controversial decision to Marcus Browne.
That's the idea...but he's got to do it for 12 full rounds. Gvozdyk was up on two of the cards when Artur stopped him. Beterbiev can't win on the cards against Bivol and he isn't coming to try that approach. I give Bivol a small-to-moderate edge in taking the fight, but in Bivol's shoes I'd be wanting to face the oldest Artur possible on fight night.
Nearly unbeatable is a bit much I agree. Everyone is beatable That's why I don't engage in thread of fantasy fights.
