I agree. But I think that's what comes to mind for a lot of people. For many it is the biggest upset of all time. I see it different. It was not only a bad performance by Tyson. "He had a bad day, bad preparation, japanese maid"...all that stuff. But for me it was no coincidence. Buster was outstanding that night. Showed a lot skill, fast and sharp hands, very crisp accurate punches, good ring iq, very strong, good stamina. On that day he would have been a treat not just for Tyson, but also for guys like Bowe, Holyfield, Witherspoon, Mercer in their primes.

I don't subscribe to the myth Tyson "easily" beats THAT version of Douglas when Tyson went the distance with guys like Tucker, Tillis, and Smith. Even a drug addict Pinklon Thomas lasted 7 rounds. Tokyo Douglas was more well rounded than all those guys, was firing on all cylinders, and determined to win. Worst case scenario Douglas does at least as good as Ruddock in the 2nd fight going the distance and hurting Tyson while putting on a great performance.

 

I dunno, a couple of their other fights were very close.

 

I've heard LaMotta had an argument for winning 3 of their fights, although I can't contest to that as I haven't seen all of their fights.

I know in the movie Raging Bull, they made it appear LaMotta got shafted in one of their fights, although as movies like to exaggerate I'm not sure how true that is.

 

True! I see it the same way, he had the total package. But i feel like Tucker is also a little bit underrated. He is the most closest to the Ruddock / Douglas level. All 3 could be Top 5 HW contenders today.
