I'd would rather be blind than to be cursed with below average punch resistance and if for some inexplicable reason I were to spawn a glass-jawed freak for a son I would completely disown them.
What a load of crap. You're probably a fanboy of glass jawed fighters like Fraudley Harrison, Amir Khan or some other fragile-mandibled boxer. Glass jaws are a big part of boxing, and no matter what you do or say, you pathetic glass jaw denier, we are going to discuss, laud and PROMOTE the CRITICAL IMPORTANCE of punch resistance on this site. Don't like talking about glass jaws? That's fine, stick your head in the sand and live in blissful ignorance. But don't attack the discerning critical boxing fans who KNOW how important having solid whiskers in this sport. GLASS JAWS EXIST in BOXING, and yes, we ARE going to discuss them on this site.
Of course some fighters are much more affected by a good punch to the jaw than others. What seems off to me is the way such fighters are often mocked, ridiculed for it, treated as if it's the worst of character flaws. If you've several times been stunned or stopped by blows to the jaw, it surely takes some courage to go in with a big hitter, to risk your jaw again, knowing how vulnerable you are in that area, through no lack of 'character', 'heart' or training.
Glass jaws matter - but the term is over-applied. Any boxer who is knocked down or stopped seems to always immediately be labeled as having a glass jaw. I remember when Tyson Fury got knocked down by Steve Cunningham (who weighed maybe 208 lbs) in their 2013 fight Many immediately pointed at Fury and said he had a glass jaw and was a stoppage waiting to happen. Yeah? Nine years later we are still waiting for him to be stopped.
There's just truth to it, and the term is widely used to point out the weakness. Usually the fans that are opposed to it being used/mentioned are fans of boxers that are known to have quite feeble punch resistance. the terms used in boxing aren't meant to be politically correct. Slow, overweight, technically low skilled fighters are called all kinds of names too. There's no place for woke terminology in boxing.
Pectoral muscles also matter in boxing. You wouldn't be able to throw most punches without them. Anyone who refuses to spend all his forum time talking about pectoral muscles is a chest denier.
Agreed. I think most use the term because they think they look knowledgeable or cool. Glass Jaw went from being a boxer who appears to be easily stopped to just merely getting clipped. I got into spat with some chat on the Boxing 24/7 articles over that. He said some fighter had a glass jaw. I think it Benavidez or Andrade. I was like how so? He was never stopped or been knocked down for that matter. He said because the other guy got in a good punch. lol
My favourite fighter of all time is Joe Louis. My favourite fighters of today are Andrade, Bivol, Usyk, Cash and Callum Johnson. Been in fights myself, never knocked down, only buzzed and messed up face but I had still had my wits about me. You sound like one of the nutcases labelling people an anti vaxxer by calling me a glass jaw denier lol. No, it's just my educated opinion from my own experiences and from what I've observed watching boxing for as long I have.
