If you were a fighter would you rather have Angelo Dundee or Emanuel Steward in your corner?

Steward for me. Unless i was known for laying back too much and needed corner motivation to fire. It's Dundee then.

I don't believe Dundee took any fighter from amateur to
a pro world champion. Stuart did , multiple times,
    Stuart for me.

Steward for a trainer, I have Dundee as my cut man, he was one of the best in that department.

I know this is a sacrilege, but I think Angelo Dundee is overrated as a trainer. Obviously he was a good trainer, but his biggest claim to fame was just letting Ali be Ali and yelling "you're blowing it son" to SRL... Like great advice Angelo how about some actual boxing suggestion?

I'll admit a lot of my opinion is related to how long he let Ali fight and the fact that he was willing to send Ali back out in manilla even tho ali was near death. Yes he stopped the Holmes fights mercifully but I doubt Stewart would have cornered for a fighter in the condition Ali was for Holmes.

Hard to say one trainer is better than the other once a trainer has 30+ years experience under their belt and has trained multiple world champions, which is the case for both Dundee and Steward.

Definitely Steward. Not to take a thing at away from AD but Steward had a way of taking anyone and improved them.

Dundee did little to nothing to compare to “Steward” he’s not a boxing trainer from what I’ve seen. I really can’t find anything, most people who’ve seen him in the gym think he does scant work. Leonard’s AM guys took care of him, Ali did what he want… this sort of comment has been done to death, point is Dundee and Steward are nothing alike.

Angelo like most trainers take more of a finishers role once they become fully established and in demand, since once in high demand they simply don't have the time to work with a fighter on a day to day basis, since that's more of an assistant trainer's role. Angelo already did extensive day to day gym work with fighters for years as an assistant trainer in the 40's and 50's.

As for Leonard Angelo was specifically brought in as an advisor, matchmaker, and cornerman. The day to day training was left to the assistant trainers Dave Jacobs and Janks Morton. Manny himself became more of finish man than a day to day trainer once he was fully established and in demand. When he trained Wlad most of the day to day training was handled by the assistant trainer James Ali Bashir and for Lennox Manny left the day to day stuff to assistant trainer Harold Knight. Manny would show up in the final weeks before a fight and oversee things much like Angelo did when he trained Ali, Leonard, etc.. Guys like Futch, Benton, Dick Saddler, and Goldman all did the same as well.

At 3:05 a young man asks Ali how he rates Dundee as a trainer and Ali sums up very well what makes a great trainer.

My question remains. Who did Angelo build and train?

    Both sales men.

There must be many trainers just as good as either of them that lack their influence in the media and ability to promote themselves, delegate, organise and think on the spot.

quieter individuals satisfied with working with kids know just as much.
