Pay attention to the ropes sequece in this round :

"Floyd lands a jab through the guard, Canelo counters with a hard jab of his own that lands flush. Floyd hits the rope and Canelo follows it up with a hard jab with impact to Floyd’s head. Canelo slips a Floyd jab with head movement. Canelo’s got Floyd on the ropes : Canelo throws a left hand to the shoulder, followed by another left hand to the shoulder, Floyd ducks way down, the right hand lands on Floyd’s back, followed by a low left hook by Canelo that connects with the top of Floyd’s head as he was ducking. This seemed to affect Floyd’s equilibrium (punch effectiveness) as it’s followed by another left by Canelo partially blocked by Floyd, but it moves Floyd and Floyd has to reset. (more punch effectiveness) Canelo once again feints Floyd and Floyd bites hard."

This is excellent work by Canelo. Roughing him up on the ropes, Floyd losing his equilibrium, that's confirmation of punch effectiveness. This is textbook effective aggression by Canelo. You can't ignore this work by Canelo. This was excellent work pinning Floyd on the ropes and landing effective shots. Starting the round strong with hard jabs, ending the round strong with a stiff jab. Canelo showcased his defense this round that truly was impressive. Floyd's best work, like the one-two or the 3 punch combo do not compare. Canelo was not affected or deterred by these shots. He landed the harder jabs, more hooks, more body shots, roughed Floyd up on the ropes, and he showcased better high level defense. He parried shots, blocked multiple body shots by Floyd. This was probably Canelo's best defensive work of the match, and some of his hardest landed shots occurred in this round. I just don't know how anyone could watch this round and not see this at the very least a close toss-up round. To say this was clear for Mayweather is just unacceptbale. We need some second opinions of this round. Mr. Florez, we have a significant disagreement here with this round. We need to deal with any rounds that we differ on to this extent. I'm not gonna fight you on any rounds we both agree were close, but for you to claim a round that I gave to Canelo was a clear Mayweather round, that's something that demands further attention. I know you want to move on to Round 4, but putting the cart before the horse here is a misstep. We really need to deal with Round 3, so please confirm the ropes sequence work, the stiff jabs, the defense on display from Canelo that round before we move on.

Care to elaborate? Did you observe the hard jabs by Canelo to start and end the round? Did you observe Canelo parrying multiple Floyd jabs and blocking Floyd attempts at body shots? Did you see Canelo making Floyd miss wildly several times? Did you observe the ropes work with Floyd pinned up on the ropes, getting hit with effective shots? Did you see the left hooks? The hard right hand to the body?

Floyd had a good 1-2, a fluid 3 punch combo where only 1 punch landed, a good left hook, and some weaker jabs than the jabs Canelo landed. Canelo had more hooks, harder jabs, had better defense, parried several Floyd jabs, blocked several body shots, was the effective aggressor all round, had superior ring generalship with very effective feints that in this round led to landed shots.

Clean effective punching this round was very even.
    Effective Aggression was clearly Canelo.
    Ring Generalship clearly Canelo.
    Defense, clearly Canelo.

Canelo won 3 out of the 4 scoring categories this round with clean effective punching being very debatable. I would argue Canelo did the more effective work, if you look at how Floyd reacted to the shots, losing his equilibrium on the ropes, being moved by shots. Nearly falling over from a feint. Floyd was all over the place this round running for his life. Canelo was the boss this round.

Mayweather blocks a left hand and gets tagged by 2 glancing right hands. Canelo gets a left hook in. Mayweather lands 2 jabs and Canelo lands one of his own. Canelo blocks a 2 punch combination and gets tagged with a left. Mayweather covers Canelos vision with his lead hand and tags Canelo with a right.

Agreed. A Canelo round for me as well.

Round 4 : The round starts with both men missing a jab, then there’s a clinch. Canelo lands a jab to the body. Canelo then throws a left hook partially blocked but lands around Floyd’s guard below Floyd’s ear in the neck area followed by another clinch. Canelo throws a left jab that comes up short with Floyd moving away, this is followed by 2 Canelo hooks that both land on Floyd’s head, the 2nd one partially blocked. Canelo is finding a home for these left hooks that are landing behind Floyd’s guard. Canelo lands a jab to the body, it was partially blocked but it got in there. This is a great start for Canelo.

Floyd finally lands a jab partially blocked through the guard. Canelo throws a right while Floyd is throwing a left, they both sort of miss, as their arms are tangled and they clinch momentarily. Canelo lands a grazing left hand to the body, and Floyd winds up with a big left hook but Canelo once again parries it, pushes it aside, and in that parrying motion, Canelo inadvertently lands a backhanded left that grazes Floyd’s face. A right hand from Canelo just misses and grazes Floyd’s left ear. Floyd pushes him away. Canelo misses a short left hook, Canelo blocks a Floyd jab. Floyd attempts a left-left-right combo and Canelo blocks all 3 punches impressively. Canelo then lands a left hook to the neck followed by a right hand to the body that grazes Floyd’s back as he’s moving away. Floyd then throws a quick straight right as Canelo is pulling back hard. Hard to tell if it landed. Both men land and partially slip jabs one after the other. Floyd then lands a jab to the stomach followed by a big overhand right that Canelo manages to narrowly avoid. (it looked like it may have landed on the TV broadcast camera, as Canelo appeared to turn his head, but I checked the reverse angle and it clearly missed) Floyd manages to then land a jab as Canelo is pulling away.

Now at this point Canelo is winning the round. He got off to a fast start and has landed more punches thus far. What happens next is that Floyd gets Canelo in a headlock, and Floyd does something incredibly dirty. He wraps his left arm around Canelo’s head and attempts to hyperextend Canelo’s head by using his glove to twist Canelo’s head toward him. Canelo immediately retaliates by first trying to push Floyd’s glove away from twisting his head, but when that doesn’t work, he proceeds to hit Floyd in the thigh with a right hand. Now this may have appeared like Canelo committed a foul but what really happened was Floyd had Canelo in a headlock and was twisting Canelo’s head and wouldn’t release the grip. It’s hard to tell but the inside of Floyd’s glove may have actually been right over Canelo’s eye as he was twisting. Canelo hit him low after it was clear that Floyd was not releasing the grip and twisting action. This was a very dirty move by Floyd and Canelo’s low punch was a retaliation for that. I doubt this sequence has ever been discussed, but I encourage you all to look at it closely to understand what Floyd did there and why Canelo threw that right hand to the thigh.

Canelo was very upset with Floyd there and he had every right to be. So much so that when Floyd attempted to touch gloves after, Canelo wasn’t having none of that and did not touch gloves. After Canelo completely ignores Floyd’s offer to touch gloves, moments later Canelo once again feints Floyd and gets Floyd to bite yet again!

So the round continues, both fighters circle each other. They slip each other’s jabs. Both land a series of punches that are mostly blocked though Floyd managed to land a right hand that grazed Canelo’s back as he was leaning. Canelo lands a jab as Floyd was pulling back hard. Floyd throws a jab to the body, Canelo evades it. Floyd lands a jab to the neck area, Canelo counters with two jabs the second hitting Floyd right smack in the mouth! Canelo effortlessly parries a Floyd jab and counters with a quick hard right. It was mostly blocked but it surprised Floyd, and as a result, Floyd attempted an off-balance right hand that completely whiffed.

Floyd’s now in the shoulder roll, but Canelo lands a hard 4 punch combination. The first punch was blocked, the 2nd punch landed on Floyd’s back as he was turning, the 3rd punch seemed to land hard to Floyd’s stomach, followed by a sensational right hand that rocks Floyd to the face. It was an unbelievable combination!

Floyd is still in the shoulder roll. Canelo land a right hand to the stomach which landed right in between Floyd’s arms and gloves. Another jab by Canelo lands flush right on the chin. Canelo then proceeds to throw a one two (body head), both were partially blocked but had force. Floyd misses a jab, Canelo counters with a hard left hook to the body, Floyd misses a short left hook. Floyd finally lands a jab through the guard partially blocked, followed by another jab that was fully blocked by Canelo. Floyd throws two more jabs that are partially blocked but appear to land slightly on the forehead. Canelo quickly responds with a hard jab that hits Floyd right in the mouth. Floyd throws a jab that’s blocked by Canelo, Canelo counters with a right hand that lands, but Floyd counters the counter with a nice right hook. Floyd then gets another jab in, followed by Canelo missing with a counter left hook. And right when Floyd started admiring his work, Canelo lands a hard jab that really got Floyd’s attention. Floyd throws a 3 punch combo consisting of two body punches followed by a right hand, all 3 punches were blocked in a tight elbow-elbow glove guard from Canelo. Floyd attempts a left hook, misses completely. Floyd gets in a hard overhand right through the guard and the round ends. 10-9 Canelo.

Thus far, Markus and I only disagree about Round 3. We agree on round 1, 2 and 4. This is a good start. Markus has it 2-2 after 4, I have it 3-1 Canelo after 4. Our disagreement about Round 3 sticks out like a sore thumb, but he's clearly intent on soldiering on.

Markus, you invited me in here. I'm happy to answer your call and continue through to the other rounds despite our disagreement about Round 3. But as your guest, you owe it to me to revisit Round 3 after we're done and any other rounds that we have a significant disagreement on as we continue. The point of this is to understand and respect any rounds that we disagree on. We agree on 3 of the first 4 rounds, which is encouraging, but if there are further disagreements as we continue on, we really need to hash them out once we've complete the 12 rounds.

Agreed. A Mayweather round for me as well. Relatively close but Canelo just didn't do enough to edge it.

Round 5: Canelo comes out and lands a jab through Floyd’s guard. Floyd throws a jab and Canelo narrowly evades it. Canelo lands a jab to the body, Floyd counters with a short right hand. Canelo lands a hard jab to Floyd’s chin through the guard. Canelo fakes a jab then lands a jab on Floyd’s arm with Floyd in the shoulder roll blocking stance. Floyd throws a jab, it’s short and blocked by Canelo. Floyd appears to land a partially blocked jab, Canelo counters with a partially blocked left hook to the body and a short right hand that hits Floyd on the elbow. Then there’s 3 punch combo by Canelo (chest-chest-elbow) that is partially blocked. Canelo blocks a Floyd jab, then Canelo evades a lunging left hook from Floyd, and Canelo counters with a jab to the shoulder followed by a body shot that lands under the guard. Floyd is in the shoulder roll at this point and he’s turned sideways so that most of Canelo’s punches are hitting arms or gloves, but Canelo is trying to land punches in between the gloves or to the body below Floyd’s left elbow. Floyd appears to land a short right hand then Canelo mostly misses with a counter uppercut. (may have grazed Floyd as he was backing away) Floyd slips a Canelo jab. Floyd lands a jab flush through the guard. Canelo lands a hard jab. Floyd lands a partially blocked grazing jab. Canelo lands a light left hook and a hard right hand to the body. Floyd lands another jab through the guard. Floyd throws a left hook blocked by Canelo. Then Floyd responds with a quick hard jab through the guard. Floyd lands another jab through the guard. Canelo is just short with a counter jab. Canelo blocks a jab, Canelo then winds up and lands a good left hook right on the chin. Floyd responds with a jab. With Floyd now on the ropes, Canelo is just short with a right hand that grazed Floyd’s chin. Floyd then proceeds to grab on to Canelo, pulls his head down and holds on for dear life lol. Canelo throws a jab that’s blocked by Floyd. Then Floyd lands a jab right as Canelo lands a big hook with Floyd along the ropes. Floyd smiles like “Yeah I felt that”. Canelo quickly feints with Floyd on the ropes, Floyd flinches with his gloves. Canelo throws a jab, right straight, left hook combo, that all mostly miss as Floyd ducks under the left hook. Floyd grabs on to Canelo and with Canelo’s back to Floyd, before the ref breaks them up, Floyd emphatically lands a punch directly into Canelo’s back! Floyd is short with a right hand and Canelo misses with a hard counter uppercut. Canelo lands a left hook to the temple and then Canelo throws a straight right that lands on Floyd’s left shoulder because Floyd rotated his body and lifted his left shoulder up to avoid / absorb the punch. This put Floyd off balance though and Floyd’s counter right hand misses.

With 1:22 left, Floyd lands a jab through the guard, Canelo appeared to parry it away with his left glove pushing the punch away, but the punch did land before the glove got there. Floyd gets another jab in, this one mostly blocked. Canelo lands a hard jab to the neck. Another jab from Canelo hits the chin. There’s a jab to the arm by Canelo. Floyd lands a light jab, partially blocked. The ref breaks the fighters and at 31 seconds left in the round, Floyd blocks a Canelo jab. Floyd has another range finding jab blocked, then lands a hard right hand to the body, followed by a very low left hand low blow which got Floyd a warning from the ref. Canelo actually countered the low blow with a quick hard left hook to the head that landed and surprised Floyd. Both miss with a right hook. Canelo lands a solid jab clean across the left side of Floyd’s face. Floyd tries to counter with a jab but misses short. Floyd bites on another Canelo feint! Floyd now with his hands down leaning forward, Floyd leans back and rotates his body still with his hands down, and Canelo lands a jab to Floyd’s arm. Floyd lands a jab then Floyd lands another jab. Canelo lands two jabs of his own, one to the chin another to the left arm.

Relatively close, but this was a Floyd Mayweather round 10-9.

    You were doing so well.

Round 6 : Floyd lands a jab to start the round. Canelo ducks under another Floyd jab. Floyd retreats to the ropes and Canelo throws a 3 punch combo : Two left hands to the gloves and a right hand to the back, with Floyd in the shoulder roll standing sideways. Canelo jabs to the chest and then throws a right hand to the stomach. Floyd misses with a right hand. Canelo is short with a jab. Floyd lands a jab, followed by 2 additional landed jabs. Canelo throws a jab to the body followed by a jab to the neck, followed by a right hook to the right side of Floyd’s ribs, followed by a hard left to the left side of Floyd’s ribs. (as Floyd misses a right hand) Canelo grabs Floyd then tries to throw a quick right hand to the head which Floyd narrowly avoids and Floyd counters with a right hook that lands on Canelo. Canelo lands a jab to the arm, Floyd counters with a nice right uppercut that Canelo blocks. Canelo lands two jabs to the arm and a straight right hand to the kidney area. (Floyd’s in the shoulder roll standing sideways) Then Floyd completely whiffs on a right hook. Canelo lands a hard left hook on Floyd’s temple. Both land a jab at the same time. Canelo narrowly misses with a left hook. Floyd lands a right hand. Canelo digs in a right hand uppercut to the body, then misses with a left uppercut. Canelo narrowly misses a straight right hand, and Floyd grabs on to Canelo, gets Canelo in a reverse chin lock and starts to lose his balance nearly pulling Alvarez down near the ropes. They reset and Canelo is just short with a range finding jab. Canelo feints and yet again gets Floyd to bite hard on a feint! Canelo jabs to the shoulder. Canelo misses with a left, Floyd lands a glancing right. Floyd lands a nice right hand through the guard, Canelo counters with a right hand of his own that lands on the chin. Canelo lands a 3 punch combo : left(body) right(body) and a left hook to the head. Floyd lands a right hook to the back of Canelo followed by an inside left hook to the head. Floyd misses with a jab. Canelo lands a glancing jab, Floyd lands a glancing jab. They’re in a clinch and Floyd digs in a right hand to the upper ribs after the ref said stop punching. Canelo shoves Floyd in retaliation, the ref warns Canelo. Canelo and Floyd exchange glancing jabs. Canelo parries a jab, Floyd blocks a counter jab to the body. Canelo blocks a right hand from Floyd and Canelo counters with a jab to the body that’s blocked by Floyd but it gets Floyd to drop his guard, which then Canelo takes advantage of by hitting Floyd in the head with a hard right hook. Floyd attempted a counter right hand which was blocked by Canelo. Canelo lands a left hook that lands Flush on Floyd’s cheek, followed by a right straight that lands on Floyd’s left shoulder. Both land a jab at the same time. Canelo lands a punch that lands on Floyd’s chest in between the gloves of the shoulder roll. Then Canelo lands a jab that lands on Floyd’s stomach once again in between the gloves of the shoulder roll. Floyd throws a right hand that is fully blocked by Canelo. Floyd throws a 2nd right hand that is fully blocked again by Canelo. Canelo lands a right hand to Floyd’s left shoulder, Floyd counters with a right hand and once again it’s fully blocked by Canelo. Floyd throws a jab then a right hand, both were blocked by Canelo. Canelo lands a 3 punch combo : left hook to the neck around Floyd’s glove, right hook to Floyd’s back, then a left hook that misses wildly. Floyd paws a jab then misses a right hand as Canelo ducks under, resulting in a clinch. They restart, Floyd throws a jab that Canelo blocks. Floyd misses with a jab. Canelo lands a jab on the shoulder, followed by a right hand to the body. Floyd lands a nice right hand through the guard. Canelo lands a jab to the top of Floyd’s head. Floyd throws a right hand, but it misses, Canelo ducks under it, and Canelo counters with a nice uppercut, followed by right hand from Alvarez that just misses, Floyd counters with a right hook. Floyd narrowly misses a right hand. Canelo blocks a right hand, Floyd evades a Canelo counter left hook. Canelo lands a jab, then lands a right hand that hits Floyd’s back as Floyd tries to duck it. Floyd slips a right hand. Floyd lands a hard right to the body then a hard right to the head that hits Canelo in the back of his head as he’s leaning forward. Floyd lands two more right hands to the head that are partially blocked, the 2nd one Canelo immediately counters with a big left hook that lands flush across Floyd’s cheek. Floyd skillfully blocked the right hand that followed with his shoulder, but that left hook by Canelo may have been the best punch of the round. Floyd misses a right hook. With Floyd sticking his left hand out without throwing a punch, Canelo manages to land a good jab right on the chin that backs Floyd up. Canelo throws a jab that grazes Floyd’s back as Floyd ducks the punch, Canelo misses with a right hand to end the round.

This is a very hard round to score. Very even. Canelo’s counter punching was really on display here. At times it seemed like Floyd was close to winning this round, but when Floyd landed something significant, Canelo made it a point to even the score with a counter punch. Canelo landed a left hook towards the end of the round that stood out to me as probably the best punch in the round. This was as dead even a round as you'll ever see. It’s just too close to call. When it’s even, it’s even. 10-10.

Markus, your view of rounds 1, 2, 4 and 5 are spot on. Your view of rounds 3 and 6 are way off. Calling Round 3 a "clear" Mayweather round or Round 6 an "easy" Mayweather round is not accurate. What stands out to me that indicates you were auto-scoring this round for Mayweather is when you said "The difference in ring IQ is obvious now and it's the beginning of the end for Canelo." The beginning of the end? Canelo proceeded to fight Mayweather tit for tat tooth and nail for the remainder of the round. Each time Mayweather had a good moment, Canelo would come back and even it up. I have no problem with you giving this round to Mayweather, he did some good work in the round, but this was not an easy round to score. Round 6 was much closer and harder to score than round 5 but you made it seem like Round 5 was closer.

Reading your summary here of Round 6 you seem to describe how much Canelo was landing and how even the round was, but then you get to the end and conclude it was an easy Mayweather round. Your overall conclusion just doesn't jive with your summary of how even the landed punches were. This was another razor tight, toss-up round like Round 3.

False. Mayweather landed more shots and slipped more of Canelos shots. Read my summary over again. Mayweather had big moments and lots of Canelos work was unsuccessful. Over half of his combinations were blocked or slipped. Thats why i said he "THREW a combination, not land. Mayweather blocks most of the combinations. Few punches actually landed to the body as they were intended to. This was an easy round to score. Nobody but you thinks it was a razor close round.

I'll score round 7 and make sure to add when Canelos combinations get blocked.

Why didn't you note the big counter left hook that Canelo landed towards the end of the round? Landed clean across Floyd's cheek. That was probably the best punch of the round.

    @MarkusFlorez99

Counter left hook near the end of the round.

Hardest punch of the round. Right across the face. Floyd was stunned from that. I wanna hear you talk about how good that left hook was Markus. That's what made it an even round for me. Floyd was close to winning the round, but then got caught with that left hook.

And then, as Floyd was trying to regroup from the left hook, breathing hard, blinking and missing jabs, Canelo added a nice little jab to the mouth for good measure.
