I agree.... if we're talking about '77 Foreman.

 

IMO prime Holmes beats any version of Foreman.

 

That's fine. But Young's win over a '77 Foreman means absolutely nothing when it comes to '74 Foreman vs Holmes.

 

It all depends if Larry Holmes is prepared to set the tempo against a pondering flat footed George Foreman who in his most recent fights goes looking to land his thudding right hand first. Larry may have to prepare in the gym for a Foreman who might decide to come out charging and land his right hand only to follow up with a fusillade of blows, not letting Holmes establish his snappy left jab and movement. Remember this is probably the George Foreman pre Zaire against Muhammad Ali, who still had his ego intact, not the post Zaire fighter who in Jan 1976 hit the canvas against Ron Lyle and the fighter who was sent into retirement by feather fisted Jimmy Young in March 1977. I believe if Larry is fully prepared like he was against Earnie Shavers in March 1978, first fight, and against WBC Champion Ken Norton in June 1978, Holmes could come out of this fantasy fight with a knockout over an overly aggressive Foreman by round 9. Larry would have to be careful in the early rounds, he would have to exploit the weakness that George has, lack of stamina as his fights usually do not go more than 3 rounds on an average.

 

Holmes. Foreman exceptionally overrated.

 

Foreman maybe drops Holmes in round 7 if it goes that far. Holmes by decision or late stoppage.

 

Foreman couldn't just walk through or physically bully Larry, who was a good size, strong heavyweight. Holmes didn't fight anything like Frazier or Norton, and he had WORLDS better chin and resiliency than Moorer...let's not even take into consideration his jab, only Norton could compare in that aspect, and he comparatively rarely used it.

 

He walked through Frazier’s artillery who was much more powerful than Holmes.
