What historical challengers does he have in that category among light heavies?

These are probably the four hardest hitters in light heavyweight history. Others might throw in Sergei Kovalev or Michael Spinks.

    Curtis Shepherd
    Bob Fitzsimmons
    Bob Foster
    Archie Moore

When it's all said and done, I think Beterbiev can cement himself as one of the hardest hitters ever at 175. He's an excellent knockout artist.

Michael Moorer. Very heavy puncher at Light Heavy. Without looking it up, I think he won all his fights there by kayo.

He's probably the most thudding puncher.

Was a very poor run though, most of those opponents were absolute trash, there was numerous light heavyweights around at the time better than most of the ones he was fighting.. Hill, Hearns, Maske etc.. fair play for moving up though

You could say the same about the other Light Heavies from back then in not facing Moorer. 35-years from now you could take the same view of Bivol & Beterbiev if they don't end up fighting. Looking at the names on his record, Moorer's quality of opposition was about the same as the other Light Heavy champs of the time. And none of them were keen on facing him. It's not like he took the easy option when the fights didn't happen either. He moved up to Heavyweight & dethroned Holyfield. That's the equivalent of Beterbiev moving up & dethroning Usyk. Michael Moorer was a very heavy punching Light Heavyweight champ with a 100% kayo ratio who was never defeated at the weight.

Perhaps not. I have not seen too many 10 count KOs from him. Others may have more power but are they as refined punchers as him?

He is, however, an excellcent finish, carries dynamite in both hands and his technique is the most impressive.

Those short shots and uppercuts with little travel but maximum power on them are insane to watch. The way he got in two uppercuts and a right hand while taking a step backwards and setting it up in an instant was brutal to watch.

    Poor Joe.

I can see that. He was more of one punch artist. Brutal puncher.

Prime Kovalev had KO power with a jab to the body.

Definitely the hardest "thudding" power LHW ever. There hasn't ever been a guy with that kind of pedigree, raw natural strength etc, who also has a big frame and boils perfectly down to 175. Guys back in the day with Artur's frame and power would have been HW's easily.

Would not surprise me at all if he retired at 40, undisputed with a 100% kayo rate. Only a Bivol who fights an absolutely perfect fight can stop him.

There are "snappier" punchers at 175 who you could argue have more jolting power, but not many. Kovalev and Stevenson in the last 15 years.
