Here is a link to a small article where Gans says he threw the fight but was double-crossed by his manager. https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045366/1906-02-21/ed-1/seq-8/
I think he did. But it's by no means certain he did. It's a shame that it's the only footage we have of McGovern, other than a recreation. I don't believe his claims about the Jimmy Britt fight or that his loss to Frank Erne (which I've not seen him claim) was a fix.
I would like to address something of a more urgent level of importance, Sooz. Please. I am asking you as a fellow longtime poster on this great and once great other site within the eternal and fraternal and...sisternal brotherhood of pugilism. ... ...Will you please commit today to getting an avatar? Please, if you're going to come back to us this way, please. Please.
What are you McGoverns grandmother? Everyone knows gans took a dive. Look at the ref he was disgusted he clearly knew gans wasn’t trying watch the ref counting on film and his mannerisms
^^^Wait, is that back row of emoticons humping the front row? Well, let's not pay attention to that right now. That's not-let's not bother with that.
Jesus. Every once in a while these clowns come out of the woodwork and ignore that Gans is clearly going down in that fight from punches that dont land and want us to believe that McGovern stopped him despite the fact that a bigger, stronger, harder hitting fighter like Nelson hit gans hundreds of times and couldnt.
