Define "good win". It's meaningless in the abstract.

Ortiz has performed as well or better against most of his opponents than his rival contenders, so in that respect most of them are good wins.

 

If he is now the oldest prominent southpaw HW of all time (and he may very well be) and he beats Andy Ruiz, it just makes the win all the more impressive doesn't it?

 

who has he even fought? he performed good against Wilder who everybody looks good against until they get knocked out, looked bad against charles martin the bum

 

No one has wanted to fight him, even Ruiz was trying to wriggle out of fighting an officially 43 year old Ortiz to fight a washed up kickboxer in Mexico. His best win is clearly Jennings KO7 who was 6th ranked at the time and coming off a 9-3/10-2 decision loss to Wlad. Aside from that he's fought many of the same guys that the likes of Wlad, Joyce, Rivas, Kownacki, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker, Chisora, Pulev and Takam have fought and for the most part performed well by comparison.

Stiverne x2, Duhaupas, Arreola and Breazeale didn't really look good against Wilder and Ortiz outboxed Wilder for a more sustained period and did more damage than anyone else save Fury.

Byrd didn't just look bad against Shaun George, he got stopped in a massive upset. Apologists would say "Byrd was drained, Byrd was past prime" etc. but they intentionally ignore the facts that Ortiz was virtually 25 months inactive and officially 42 against Martin (who has improved considerably since he took a dive against AJ) and he still got up twice to destroy Martin, displaying good heart, skills and power despite his legs and punch resistance being shot.
