The speed and power of his finishing is just brilliant. Having an iron chin helps, Wilder is the only one you see open up like that these days. Difference is he still does it from a relatively safe distance.
The saddest thing about Tua is he spent his entire 30s wasting his potential Never made another run at the title, got mired in legal foolishness with his management, and retired virtually broke. One of the saddest wastes of potential in boxing ever.
You always do good stuff Rummy, but this was one of your better ones. It was the biggest shame that Tua Man had to come so soon after Terminator "arrived".
I think Tua may have had a decent shot against Holyfield in 1998, early 1999. Holyfield always ran a little hot and cold, and he wasn't typically an outboxer working the jab in the way that most troubled Tua (although Holy did have a proven track record of being capable of doing that, the Bowe rematch in particular, he usually didn't).
Great vid Rummy! Tua vs Ike was an absolute war with neither guys giving an inch, truly memorable fight that. Funny with the recent surge in Undisputed, this vid shows that while we want an Undisputed HV champ, Usyk vs Joshua x2 and Fury v Wilder x3 limits the opportunities for other fighters to get their shot; and whilst I don't think there is really someone as deserving as Tua out there today, it is something we should bear in mind for sure.
Great as per usual Rummy! I would upgrade your credit of Tua as having a superb chin. But why do you have him beating Ike? I enjoyed the fight on TV at the time, but when you combine Ike taking the first 4 rounds with several more & closing out strong-& landing more blows-why do you have Tua winning? Someone said 220; but as your video shows, Tua even at a max of 5'10" could carry & did carry the mid 220's very well-that was when he wss at his peak. I would add that when his workrate slowed, he began much more headhunting. One thing i heard about him is that he did not like getting body shots. Given his build, size & style, that is an unfortunate weakness. The combination of power, power late, chin & endurance could have offset his height & length if he had stayed hungry.
Excellent video, as a relatively new fan to the sport I enjoyed a bit of history. The first boxing match I watched was Tua vs Lewis as a kid.
