So was Floyd, Duran, Hearns, and Leonard. All four are better than Pernell

Troll thread? You guys make it seem as though past fighters are untouchable. Pernell lost and drew to lesser fighters than Crawford( Tito, Oscar, and Chavez).

There are fighters in the modern era who are basically copies of Pernell: Ennis, Shakur, and Haney.

Crawford is miles away from those fighters, his resume is poor

Go back and look at the defensive highlights of Pernell. He wasn't as fundamental as a defensive fighter compared to Benitez, Floyd, Loma, Looche, Winky, and Toney. He got away with many mistakes due to god-given talent.

Are those guys really "lesser fighters" than Crawford?

The claim is a bit disingenuous in any case. The 'draw' with Chavez was widely viewed as a complete obscenity, he arguably beat Oscar, and he was clearly nearing the end of the road by the time he faced Tito.

You hype these modern fighters who are less proven. But then when you’re informed of this, you label people as being biased due to nostalgia.

    You also never apply context.

Crawford looks to be a great fighter. But we’ll have to see what happens. Hopefully, the Spence fight definitely happens next.

    Pea wasn’t unbeatable.

    Nobody is.

However, he was at the end of his career at WW when he lost to prime versions of Oscar and Tito, who were both great fighters themselves.

He’d fought 45 times at that point.

That would be like giving someone like Spence a further 20 fights, where you matched him up with a prime, elite level JMW-MW, when he was past his best himself.

Pea should never have been fighting guys like Tito at that stage of his career. Look at the size difference.

If you’re looking at a fantasy fight, look at Pea from when he was in his prime.

    Copies in what way?

As in - mobile and skillled?

Or as in - Actual copies with: a very similar/the same style?

Devin Haney bears no real resemblance to Pea.

He lost to Trinidad, yes. But he was well past prime and hadn't fought in 2 years.
In no way, shape or form did he "Draw" with Chavez. Saying that tells me you didn't watch the fight. Even the Oscar fight the majority of people feel he won and that was prime Oscar who would have given Crawford a tougher fight than anyone he fought.

Oscar Del La Hoya, JC Chavez,Buddy Mcgirt, Azuma Nelson. The draw with Chavez was a gift to Chavez. Same with ODH. Pea looked real good against a better level of op. Crawford looks great, but the level of op is below the level of Pea. That's the only reason I would give a slight edge to Pea. But, to your point, TC's physical attributes are next level and could pose some problems for Pea. I wouldn't see a blow out from either guy. Great match up.

Here is one thing you seem oblivious to though, those 3 are protected and well matched fighters whereas Pernell was certainly not given the Gary Russell Jr diet of TBA. Not saying they aren't good but none of them have been in with a lion yet either so making a comparison seems unfair. Too many times a guy looks like he has the goods steps up and gets a harsh reality. (Broner, Berto, David Reid, etc.)
