    He could have fought all 3. Inactivity and not fighting his two best challengers are problem ls, otherwise who he actually fought were fine.

    Any heavyweight champion would have taken the Carpentier fight.

    And I'll point out that Carpentier was a genuine war hero and Dempsey was considered a "slacker" draft Dodger by many, so there's one more angle to this bout.

    Review djanders post please. Carpentier was a solid choice. If he wasn't, then why did so many people go to see it? The first million dollar gate!

    This doesn't excuse avoiding Wills and/Greb, but on paper the Carpentier match was very compelling.
