You're over-simplifying the other two, but Saldivar certainly has an argument.

 

Sandy Saddler has the three best wins in featherweight history on his ledger … all by stoppage over Willie Pep. And it’s not like those are his only credentials.

 

So Nelson had Malaria again vs Sanchez ? He already had that excuse for Fenech can't use it twice.

 

Nah, his body of work is still amazing.

I take your well made point buddy and agree, slightly miffed with your appraisal of Saddler, he had wins over a good crop of fighters namely :
Salas, Joe Brown, Carter, Zulueta, DeMarco, and obvs the wins over Pep, plus the KO % , that aside, neat post.

I think the issue is that folks tend to turn him into the son of Odin because he died. Lot of wiggle room between overrated and P4P God.

 

Vicente Saldivar was an all time great, no doubt about it. But in all fairness, Salvador Sanchez did not live long enough to fully establish himself to possibly surpass Saldivar. Sanchez was WBC Featherweight Champion from Feb 2 1980 until his untimely death on August 12 1982 following his title defense against Azumah Nelson on July 21 1982 resulting in a TKO 15 in Madison Square Garden. Sanchez made 9 successful defenses of his title and was scheduled to make his tenth title defense on Sept 15 1982 in Madison Square Garden against Juan La Porte, which was a rematch. Then a possible fight against WBC Lightweight Champion Alexis Arguello was on the horizon.

 

I've never heard him refererred to as Loki or Thor?
