I don't know who he will be facing in that fight, but I know that he has been ordered to defend his English Heavyweight title against Nathan Gorman who finally returned to the ring with a 1st round KO of Tomas Salek back on June 18th. Up until that time Gorman (now 19-1) had been inactive since getting stopped by Daniel DuBois in March, 2021.
In the past, he's carried extra pounds better than some, but 341 lbs now at aged 34 and (one hopes) now "PED-free" - that is about 60+ lbs more than he should be carrying. Shedding that weight is a 6-8 month project. Not the time to be too ambitious, like you said, but something tells me Miller isn't the patient sort to start with and losing 3+ years of his career (wholly his own fault) will probably have him chomping at the bit for a big fight.
Gorman got stopped by Dubois in July 2019. Since then he's had 3 wins. Should've been way more active though.
Poor Kiladze showed courage against Ajagba though. Just goes to show how much having the right promoter and matchmaking can do for a fighter. With the right management he could have easily been groomed into a contender, and potentially a title challenger.
He’s too small and chinny for HW, and not good enough for cruiser. But maybe he can make some cash in the “bridgerweight”.
Harper was not terrified. The promotor said that he was going to cut his pay at the last minute, and so he ****ed over the show. This was actually an act of heroism.
Thun isn't quite the specimen that Ajagba is...but I pretty much agree. If you land a big shot on Harper he'll go down and won't try terribly hard to get back up. He may try to box earnestly until that big shot lands - but when it does it's over.
Yes. I remember that he had his purse cut reduced from $9K to $6.5K. Given that there was a pretty good chance he was going to end up with an overnight hospital stay - I think it's was pretty reasonable for him to just walk away. Not heroic, but reasonable.
The rescheduled Hrgovic vs. Zhang match has been added to the card for Usyk v. Joshua 2 on August 20th.
There's a general shortage of HW journeyman in N. America - so I don't think he was ever going to get black-balled. And the Minnesota Office of Combative Sports never banned or sanctioned him for his actions. The biggest issue for Harper arising from the aftermath of the fight was that the Sporting News went public with a story that Harper had sustained serious eye damage previously and that has led to his inability to be given a license in several states. He probably ought not to be boxing at all, but he's still in demand (he fought rising US prospect Brandon Moore in April, 2022...a 10 round fight which resulted in a wide UD loss for Harper).
