I agree to an extent...but I feel like if this was 90s heavyweight era..Joyce woulda probably been stopped by now due to his face first approach...I also feel similarly about froch great recovery powers n chin but don't think supermiddle was strong at that time...aware I'll catch flack for this post because everyone bums frochs resume
No, his work rate would have been too much for most heavies in the 90`s, he`s better than Mdercer was and would have beaten Holmes and McCall in the 90`s and he certainly would have out-lasted Bruno.
For me Froch is a huge question mark. I never understood his boxing and why he won all those fights I thought he wouldnt win. Even today. Since Froch I take it easier with fighters like joyce. We will see once he starts fighting elite fighters. I dont foresee a good future for him. Parker was a good milestone, tbh, it's a pity it didnt happen.
He's carried by his chin and his jab ..I don't rate him in the slightest n I'm not all that sure he beats any of those
His work-rate is insane and his body punching is better than any heavyweight from the 90`s, great finisher, landing shots with great variety.
He's also slower than a slug in a broken wheelchair and has about as much head movement as your average scarecrow
Yes. It was not uncommon for him to overwhelm his opponents with that crazy engine and relentless pressure in the amateurs and obviously those were over the short distance
Needs to be steered toward fights with Fury and Usyk, and away from Joshua and Wilder. From the shots he has been taking against both Takam and Hammer, I think putting him in against Joshua would be a bad idea. Actually, if I was Wilder I would be trying to make that fight as a quick route back to a title shot. Incredible chin, but I would be worried for his health against those two
Yeah but to be fair Usyk has an insane engine too and the speed, skills and movement to negate the things he does well. But no one is going to have an easy night against Joe unless you can KO him or box and move for the full 12 rounds and not get caught or overwhelmed by his pressure
I think you just don’t know what you’re seeing with Joyce. He times his counters as he’s pressing, he’s always balanced. People confuse efficiency with a lack of skill. He’s not hot dogging and performing to the crowd, he’s walking through and breaking mother****ers without flinching. He’s a problem, he’s a less flashy version of Lennox Lewis with a better chin and would hold his own in any era.
I'm seeing a guy with a face first defense whose extremely slow fighting in a bad era where these tactics have pretty much got him to a world title ****...which blows my mind ..and i wouldn't in any way shape or form compare him to Lennox Lewis ...he will at some point get absolutely flattened
It was a strange watch at first. When Joyce was throwing the right hand up top after a jab he seemed to be over balancing and almost lunging. We was shipping a good few shots. Perhaps that was just because he backed his chin against a non puncher but I think there was an ankle injury when I add it all together. He was much more stable as he started to plod forward in the middle distance and particularly when he when he started throwing lots to the body. There's no real risk of over reach in that range. Despite the easy win it was a fairly bad performance from Joe. I've had ankle injuries in the run up to a fight and mid fight in the past, it throws everything off and that little split second delay or lack of strength in balance makes a massive difference. Imagine tying a heavy weight to your foot and trying to move the way you instinctively would during a bout and then add the frustration that brings to the mix too. Maybe I'm wrong but he didn't look his usual self in there tonight. Shows his class though if he can have an off night and still bulldoze the opponent in 4 with ease.
