Joe Joyce beat Christian Hammer in the 4th round. Hammer in the first rounds managed to hit Joyce with several clean shots of a certain power. But Joyce has a granite chin, it's not a mistery, and he can eat many strong punches without the batting of an eye. Besides ...even tonight he has proved to have stone hands not really fast but that do a lot of damage when they crash on the opponent. Is Joyce the new Foreman?
Probably better stamina/volume but he has to beat some real competition before he gets a Foreman comparison.
Way too early for that kind of comparison. If he were to KD Fury or Usyk six times on the way to a second round stoppage, I'd give your proposition some thought.
Journeyman Joyce won't be a champion until Usyk retires after beating the **** out of Fury. He'll probably fight some bum for a vacant belt.
45 Year old Foreman would get charged with Murdering Hammer.....Gee people Over rate the Current Top Heavyweights.!!!
I've never been under any illusions regarding Joe. I know he's way too easy to hit and he could come unstuck against a very big puncher if he keeps leading with his face. But like I've been saying for years, he's a nightmare to fight with that crazy engine, relentless pressure, size & strength, power and chin of his and he can not only take you into deep waters and drown you but he can drown you with that pressure in shallow waters too as we saw again tonight. Dubois can punch holes in castle walls but Joe ate his bombs no problem and he morphed into a Virgil Hill/Herman Munster trying to do his best Loma impersonation hybrid in that one instead of leading with his face.
I don’t see the similarities between him and Foreman. Joyce is more like a dollar store Tony Margs. He takes way too much punishment in every fight and won’t be around for much longer.
Foreman lost to Holyfield, maybe losing to Usyk will be part of both guys process to fulfill their job in imitating past greats. Of course, Foreman lost to Holyfield when he was twelve years past retirement age but we can't have everything.
I don't think a fighter needs to be any good before you can compare similar attributes. It's on of my biggest pet peeves in boxing when people can't have a simple discussion without being pedantic.
Not really, because there are styles and levels. There are lots of guys that are big, slow, and hard-hitting...very few of them are George Foreman. I stand by my pedantry.
I don't see him as another Foreman. Foreman brutalised his opponents with sheer power and maneuvered his opponents into his punches by manhandling them. Joyce in contrasts lacks that power and skill to manipulate his opponents what he does instead is apply relentless pressure with an incredibly high volume of punches, forcing opponents to fight at his pace.
