I don't know how that one slipped my mind TBH, Mustafa despite weight issues. Still did very good against Spinks, arguably winning 6 or 7 rounds in the first half of fight, until he started to slow down. Was it Spinks adjusting or the weight issues or possibly a bit of both ? That allowed Spinks to dominate the rest of the fight.
Tyson should have got a rematch based on The weight issues, a closing eye and Spinks coming on - all three.
Some good points worth addressing (especially to those who didn’t live it): Evander Holyfield was the mandatory challenger and was guaranteed a shot at the winner. So either Buster or Tyson was going to fight him next. No reason Evander should have to step aside because Mike says he had a bad training camp and didn’t prepare himself properly. Douglas sued Don King for breach of contract after the fight because King tried to have Douglas stripped and for a time had the WBC going along with him to reverse the decision and call Tyson champ because of the alleged ‘long count.’ But King is also Douglas’ promoter so by siding with Tyson and not standing up for Douglas, he pissed Douglas off and Buster didn’t want to fight for him ever again. Douglas won the right in court to go through with his mandatory defense. Which allowed him to be free of King. If he had beaten Evander, he’d probably have to then fight Tyson for King again. (It’s funny that the narrative is that Douglas lost his shine by not being in shape and losing to Holyfield, but Tyson should have gotten an immediate rematch because … he wasn’t in shape. Why shouldn’t Douglas have gotten a rematch with Evander since he wasn’t in tip-top shape?) As for Joe Louis, he didn’t lose a title fight to Schmeling, that was before he was champ. And the rematch happened two years later, when Louis defended his title against the only man who had beaten him. When Tyson later won titles again, he didn’t try to make a fight with Douglas to avenge that defeat. Wilder and Fury had a rematch clause, which Wilder enforced. It happened because there was a binding contract (and it went to arbitration, with the ruling in Wilder’s favor, so Fury had no choice). Blame Don King (again) for not taking Douglas seriously enough to put a rematch clause into the Tyson contract. In fact, you can blame King for the whole thing. He was the promoter — if Tyson wasn’t fit to fight, he could have come up with a reason to call it off. And he disenfranchised Douglas after the fight by immediately trying to have his title — AND the victory — taken away simply because Tyson was bigger money (and what actually happened in the ring be damned). Last point, which has been made many times: when a fighter is knocked down he had to get up before a COUNT of 10 … not beat a stopwatch he cannot see. Buster took the time he was allowed, banged his fist on the canvas in frustration … he wasn’t out of it. There is every reason to believe if the count had been faster (like 10 seconds) that he was obviously clear-headed enough to beat it. Tyson got the same count and was crawling around the ring trying to pick up his mouthpiece like a puppy with a chew toy, clearly out of it, and did not recover.

? Nope. I knew there were 3 fights, but the last one was way too delayed to matter. After 10 years, with both guys faded and back from retirement, Leonard - Duran III should have been a backgammon match all the same ... and probably it would have been way more entertaining.
