90% of comments were about Ali? I assume the remainder were split between Tyson and Mayweather.

    most overrated fighter in history?
for the general public and casual boxing fan it must be A-L-I.
he wasn´t overrated then, but he sure is now.
during and after his boxing career he transcended boxing, grew bigger than life. the whole world fell in love with him and he is still deeply missed today. his strong and loyal following is second to none.
this takes nothing away from his actual acomplishments in the sporting world.

... coming from an ali fan,
who personally thinks he was overrated during his 2nd career in the 70s: often undertrained, lazy, clowning around, overbearing, going through the motions and not as dominant as in the prededing decade. it often looked, as if he was just a tad better than his opponents.

Ali is probably the most overrated fighter of all time, only by virtue of the fact that no one boxer, before or since, has garnered such worldwide fame and, ultimately, adoration. A consequence of this has been that vast numbers, of which only a handful understand the sport of boxing, have generally propagated the mythos, rather than examine the reality.

To be fair to Ali, however, the reality is pretty incredible.

Cleaned out, he picked up losses to Norton and Frazier and won a contrvoversial third bout v Norton, he and Norton was evenly matched in all of their match-ups.

I think Marciano's first win over a arguably a prime Jersey Joe Walcott is a strong case to be made as the best fight on Marciano's resume, one which I would rate as a really solid win.

My dude Kenny had that Ali *****'s number and he should have won AT LEAST 2 of 3 against Ali, but he was robbed.

If we're talking the general public, then Ali, Tyson or Floyd. On this forum it's probably Burley.
