I need your examples, opinions, and facts, because I don't have that much boxing knowledge.
    And thanks

As it were, Dwight Muhammad Qawi didn't have an amazing career at all, so he's not a good example. But thanks zs effort and information Barrf.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Clemente Russo, who at the 2008 Olympics beat Usyk, then Wilder consecutively, and did not win a gold medal, and did not become a professional boxer at all, so Clemente Russo is not a good example either.

Wait. Did the main post change?

I thought the post was the best pro who had the worst amateur career?

    What's going on here?

I gave as an example a good amateur boxer, who did not have a professional career at all.
As you mentioned a great professional boxer, who had no amateur career at all.
It happens; no hard feelings, please.

Jorge Luis Gonzalez makes Odlanier Solis look like Joe Louis.

Biggs also deserves mention, as do Koko Kovacs and Ricardo Williams.

I wouldn't say it was ALL bad .. but Mark Breland was a HUGE let down to say the least considering how he was touted with his Amateur record

I always say Breland, but for the fact that they kept feeding him vacant titles against overmatched opponents. I'll never forget that fight, I think it was Pineda, where they brought a guy two weight classes up to be a title defense, he still wobbled the hell out of Breland, and then quit on his stool, as if the whole thing were planned.

    Howard Davis Jr. never panned.

    Tyrell Biggs

    Audley Harrison

That cruiserweight a few years back, Chakiev.

Andrew Maynard, who was a classic case of making a stupid style switch when he turned pro. I had high hopes for him.

Vince Shomo won everything in sight in the '60s as an amateur, but despite engaging in some stirring battles, never progressed beyond prospect/journeyman.

Another one was Shawn O'Sullivan, the Canadian silver medalist from the '84 Olympics. They had him feast on clubfighters and then rushed him into a bout with Simon Brown. I remember at the time thinking this was a mistake as I had already witnessed Brown put up a very competent attempt at Marlon Starling. I said at the time that I couldn't see Shawn going 7 with Brown (it went 3). After that they tried building his confidence against stepping stones but always faltered when he stepped up.
