I'm not talking about bull**** nostalgia lists filled with Americans from 50 or 100 years ago. If 6'5, 265 lbs Joyce wasn't a top fighter he wouldn't have beaten so much top global competition in the amateurs or have been robbed of Olympic gold, despite his durability, size, power and engine being more suited to 12 rounders than 3 rounders.
Yes, Foreman was a top fighter in his day. Winning gold with a poor style for the amateurs also showed he had a lot of potential for the pros.
Olympic boxing in George Foreman's day was very similar to pro boxing. Today's Olympic boxing is a very different game than pro.
I have a shocking story to tell you.. Ali got punched in the face by Cooper.. and even dropped!! Lol I wonder if boxing fans were so critical back then as well. What happened? We decided that fighters have an unchangeable essence and they were always exactly the same every single time they step in the ring?
Ali didn't just walk face first into shots with no head movement or barely any semblance of defense Joyce does...and against mediocre opposition...and he's 37...so he's not gonna change
