So basically, if Joe Louis Had a career fighting Larry Holmes Title Opponents, does he get to 49 - 0. Beating Michael Spinks at the very end?

I've got to say, I'm dubious he can do it.

Not only does it happen, it happens in a seal clubbing fashion.

I believe he probably could, and perhaps somehwat ironically, I think Spinks would have the best shot at ruining his run at just 1 win away, exactly like what happened with Larry.

If Joe Louis had the luxury of staying in his prime against them all, then he’s got a very good chance, yes. I’d love to see him against Shavers though…would’ve been fun to watch. While it lasted.

But if he fought them in the same order as Holmes did, and he aged as he fought them as Holmes did, I can see the likes of Michael Spinks giving him a bit of a puzzle to solve.

Spinks could Conn him out of the final victory. Some dangerous fights along the way as well.

Ok, well the Cooney fight would have been a potential banana skin for a slightly past his prime Louis. I can quite easily see Louis finishing it much earlier than Holmes did because Louis didn’t tend to let people off the hook once he caught them. And I’m sure Louis would catch him.
But Cooney was a potent puncher and if these two are trading, there’s always that chance that he catches Louis first…

    Your right, Vic.
Cooney is leagues below Louis in terms of skill, we all know that... But, this is boxing and whenever a guy can hit anything can happen.
That's why it's a danger fight for Louis.
The odds are massive that Cooney loses but Joe has to fight a smart fight, which we know he could do.
Shavers is another potential danger but he was on the slide by the time he took on Holmes for the title.
Still had him in La La land for a bit!

Yes Shavers would be a potential dangerous threat. When you look at Holmes’ 70s/80s career, he actually fought a few dangerous hard hitters...Shavers twice (as if once wasn’t enough punishment), Cooney, Norton, Smith.Thankfully he had a decent chin and great recuperative powers or he could have had a couple of KO defeats on his resumé.
I’m sure a prime Louis in peak condition would walk through those hard hitting but limited guys, but the danger of being sparked would be real if he wasn’t as solid in the chin/recovery department as Holmes…
