Terrified? Nah. Cautious, maybe trepidatious? Yes, I suspect so. All of these situations typically come down to risk and reward. Usyk is high risk and as yet it's unproven whether he's a sufficient draw to bring the reward side. Fury could lose to any hw, but being outskilled or outhought, that would be particularly damaging. I've little doubt he's hoping Joshua takes care of him and if he does I don't expect Fury to ever face him. If he were terrified however, then he wouldn't fight him for any price, whereas I think there's a figure at which he would fight him whatever the risk to his reputation and legacy. So it's a little from column a and a little from column b...
Not sure "terrified" is the word, but he is rattled. He knows he is in decline from age, hard fights, weight fluctuations, drugs and alcohol, and now, all of a sudden, a different sort of fighter entirely from Joshua and Wilder is in front of him, and it happens to be the best he could ever share a ring with. You can tell by the "suck my balls" comment...usually he is the one stirring the other guy up, and then, all of a sudden, there was Usyk coming out of nowhere to have some fun at Fury's expense and give him the Ukranian serial killer look. You can tell by the accusations of PED use...something Fury would really do well to stay away from. And you can tell by all the retirement talk and the ridiculous money demands. He's rattled.
I always think these threads about fighters being ‘scared’ or in this case ‘terrified’ of others are a bit silly and naive. In reality - Fury isn’t scared of Usyk, and certainly isn’t ‘terrified’. But he knows it’s potentially his hardest test to date hence why he’s clearly hoping Joshua wins. Saying fighters are ‘scared’ or whatever just buys into the silly hyperbole that surrounds the sport.
Disagree. Entirely. HW title fighting takes balls of steel. Tyson said he was terrified during ringwalks.
It’s disgraceful that some people on this forum have called Fury an ATG heavyweight and tried to convince people he is in the same bracket as Lennox. The guy will not dare fight Usyk, clearly claimed to retire because Usyk & Joshua are going nowhere. Joshua is actually battle tested, he has fought everyone available to him win or lose. Fury has fought Wilder x3 to stay relevant while everyone else has been trying to compete at a high level. Why even fight Whyte? He was ko’d stiff by an old man a couple of fights before. What does that even prove? Fury is a loud mouth who demands respect because he beat an old Klitschko, ran away from the sport and came back to beat one of the most overrated champions in Boxing at the time x3. If he wants to earn respect rather than demand it, fight the below in this order; Winner of Joshua/Usyk 2 Loser of Joshua Usyk 2 Joyce Dubois I know he wont get to the loser of Joshua/Usyk 2 because he will lose to the winner of that fight, demand a rematch and lose again and then retire. Good luck Tyson, your going to need it
Fury wants absolutely nothing to do with Usyk for obvious reasons. Fury has been built up as a nimble masterful heavyweight wizard when in all honesty he's just a big man who moves well for his size. The difference in skillset would be as clear as day and Fury would be forced to solely rely on brute strength which could be enough, however, looking clumsy and out of depth against a blown up cruiserweight would be damaging to Tyson's ego.
I think the people who believe that (or are trying to convince themselves of it) are either deeply foolish by inherent nature or else indulging in a deeply foolish episode. Fury lives and breathes for this ****. If Usyk is the man left standing after the smoke clears in Jeddah, as most of us expect will be the case, and the world declares him the reckoning of the Gypsy King, you've got to be out of your gourd or gassed to think he won't be deeply motivated for that. But go ahead and let your hate (and it is hate) consume you. I'll continue to kick back licking my chops, awaiting due course, safe in the knowledge of what will play out when this fight happens (and it will happen) and with no axe to grind so far as Oleksandr Usyk the fighter and personality is concerned. It'll end in tears for all the usual suspects and endless excuses will have to be made for Usyk, who will take the L manfully and will deserve much better than the LDBC-tier mob of whiners (both the diehards and transients) his fanbase will resemble afterwards. Usyk was old. Usyk's heavenly body was riddled with injuries. Fury was big, and we were unaware of this fact when issuing our snooty pre-fight pronouncements and proclamations that Usyk would do him in, so that's not fair. Usyk was sad because Putler. Usyk had one billion six hundred forty-seven million four hundred seventy-two thousand nine hundred thirty-three amateur fights before turning pro and this was just one bout too many. Wildettes pt. II is coming. Meanwhile, Usyk's 0 will look very sparkly on Fury's résumé. And then it'll be on to the next great Eastern Bloc or Afro hope Tyson Fury's supposed to be terrified of or rattled by. There's nothing new under the ****in' sun, boys.
Just promise me, Usykbros, no damn excuses in the event of a legitimate victory for either man. I can abide by that pact. I'm not so sure about you all... If Steven Patrick is with you, can't nobody be against you; This content is protected
Fury comes out of retirement to brutalise a feather fisted cruiserweight he gets little credit. USKY's an ATG cruiser but at heavy his best win is either the mentally shot guy who went 1-1 with an obese grinning mexican middleweight or the totally shot old guy with 15 losses and a war cap on. Is what they'll say. Same as Fury got no credit for toying with Whyteleafe, who he was also supposedly terrified of facing.
Perhaps not on BF24. Usyk will undergo the most rapid transmutation from shining God to downtrodden, fragile, emaciated refugee on these pages. History tends to be a more balanced, uninvested judge.
I'm worried for Fury if Usyk manages to defeat him. Usyk would brush off the loss and move on with life. But Fury would mentally breakdown and go on a 5 month cocaine and booze bender.
Don't feign concern, you'd love to see the man in ruins. But you'd/you'll be surprised by exactly how Fury would/will respond to defeat. If/when it does happen, it'll just be Fury's Neon Leon moment, the opening of another legendary chapter in the Prophecy. Won't be Usyk who does it, though, if anyone.
