Wifebeater and Fury victim Schwarz will be fighting someone names Emir Ahmatovic with a dodgy 12-1 record on July 29.

I don't like a woman beater, but now that he is being trained by Yoan Pablo Hernandez and fighting frequently, I think he will become a good fringe contender type.

USA Cruiserweight prospect Derick Miller Jr moved to 7-0-0 with a July 1st UD victory over cruiserweight/heavyweivht swingman Joe Jones, who now drops to 13-6-0. This is Miller's first semi-serious opponent, apart from Larry Pryor (15-26-0) who Miller stopped in 4 rounds 6 weeks ago.

If his opponent - Joe Jones -rings a bell - it's because he was on the June 10th "ShoBox: New Generation" card just 3 weeks ago that featured the Jalolov v. Mulowayi and Arias v. Green fights.

Joe Jones fought as a heavyweight against Amron Sands on the June 10th card - only 21 days earlier.. He weighed in at 210 lbs for that fight - which went the full 8 round distance.

As I said above, Jones swings back and forth between Heavyweight and Cruiserweight. Dropping 10 lbs in 21 days after fighting 8 rounds to fight another 6 rounds is certainly very ambitious...even for fighter who routinely straddles both classes.

And this is where things get really fishy...

Joe Jones weighed in at 189.3 lbs for the fight. So, apparently he actually shed 21 lbs in 21 days !!! That's ridiiculous, right? If Jones actually pulled that off, he'd be in the ER totally-drained (or on "Oprah" pitching his miracle diet)

But you now what? I don't think that's what actually happened because....

Derick Miller Jr only weighed in at 187.8 lbs, himself. When was the last time you saw a cruiserweight fight where both opponent were more than 10 lbs underneath the weight limit?

So what was going on? I'd bet somebody tampered with that scale before these two gents weighed in...most probably to enable a fighter in another match to make weight.

That's really surprising. In fact, I just read that Harper dropped Thun once during the fight. Nice to see Harper get a bit of redemption after the Ajagba affair.

Definitely an upset. Harper had most recently fought USA HW prospect Brandon Moore in early April. Moore dominated that fight. I rated Thun to be at least as good a prospect as Moore but here we are...

    Quick notes on Ahmatovic...

His sole loss was a 3rd round KO at the hands of Hrgovic last December.

Two of his wins were against the willdly-unsuccessful AndrĂ¡s Csomor (who has been used to pad the records of many a heavyweight...though typically only once). So, as you said, that 12-1 record is a bit suspect...

That knockdown was no "flash" knockdown. Apparently, Harper landed a big, looping overhead right that dropped Thun and had him badly hurt. Harper might have been able to stop Thun right then and there - but Curtis's own mouthpiece fell out just a few seconds later (as a result of his jaw dropping from landing that punch?) and the resulting delay bought Christian precious extra time to recover.

I think Curtis Harper would make an excellent opponent for Sonny Conto for his next fight but I suspect Harper will be Simon Kean's September 9th opponent.

Sugar Robert Helenius will be back during the fall on a US PPV card. They have the opponent and the venue ready but no date yet. His manager said it's a significant fight and the opponent's name "leaves no doubts".

Riakporhe has a win over Sam Hyde. No one at CW-HW can touch him

Glanton scored a 5th round stoppage victory over Webster to move to 16-0-0. Webster was down three times during the fight. More or less what I was expecting. Glanton's career seems to be stuck in a holding pattern without better fights and it isn't clear to me how he will get them in N. America.

Stephan Shaw will face Bernardo Marquez in an 8 rounder on July 15. Richard Torrez will face Roberto Zavala Jr in a 6 rounder on the same card.
