The jab that DESTROYED Mike Tyson - Lennox Lewis breakdown

He didn't have as much potential as you make it out to be.
He caught Tyson at the right ti!e and everybody knows that.
Then he got knocked out in what 3 rounds by Evander.
And that was pretty much it.
You also forget he got stopped by Tony Tucker before Tyson.
People get carried away with his fight vs Tyson and the funny thing is why did he never rematch Tyson?
It would have made loads of money and people would have paid to see it.
Lewis would have stopped any version of Douglas and that's just a fact.

 

All this potential/consistency is just BS. If you don't have the skills or punch you are not going to be successful period.
Lewis hit harder. Had a better jab. Better stamina.
What exactly did Douglas do better then Lewis?

 

Buster Douglas won but not fair and square. After being floored with a signiture Tyson uppercut he was granted a 13 count.
Technically Tyson won that bout but was cheated. I would like to say Imo but those are actual facts.

 

Not just in boxing, there are lots of endeavours in life where superior discipline and hard work will prevail over more natural talent if that talent relies only or mainly on itself.

When the talent is combined with the hard work then you get a truly elite ATG.

IMO, for one night, Buster posted a single performance worthy of an ATG but he didn’t have the discipline to create a body of work to warrant being called an ATG.

Tbh, there has been a LOT of naturally talented boxers and a LOT of boxers who didn’t live up to their “potentials”.

Maintained discipline, focus and hard work are far more rare commodities than natural talent.

In all possibility they are potential qualities but that doesn’t speak for their being likely qualities or easily adopted by fighters of certain personality make ups.

For all intents and purposes the necessary hard work etc.simply doesn’t exist in potential for a LOT of fighters.

So for Buster, it was just the One Night in Bangkok…err, I mean Tokyo.

The world was his oyster for a short time until he flabbed up and flubbed out against the Real Deal - now there was a guy with ATG discipline, focus and work ethic - the nick says it all.

 

The only reason why Lewis vs Tyson was made was because they were two of the biggest names and people wanted to see the fight still.
Throw in Tyson's antics pre fight and it peaked the general publics curiosity.
All true boxing fans knew Lennox was going to beat the crap out of Tyson BARRING a big punch from Tyson which punchers can always punch no matter what.
But Mike had about two rounds to even try that. After that he was done.

 

You're very generous, he looked practically incapable of mounting any serious offense after one, to me at least. The rest marks the 1st time I both admired and felt sorry for Mike Tyson.

 

But, But, Mike Tyson lost his prime at 23. He was co dependent on Kevin Rooney, but who's fault was it that Rooney was fired? Robyn Givens, he mother Ruth Roper? My Grandmother used to say, what a woman has that is part of her anatomy is the strongest weapon in the world, it has created wars, turned politicians into crooks. I am sure you posters out there know what body part I am referring to. In life everyone has choices, decisions have to be made everyday of our lives. So Mike either chose Don King or Givens. His own choice, he had to live with his choice and so it goes.

 

Well not exactly. Its depends on the Ref counting to ten, it’s not an exact ten count some are slower others faster.

 

No disrespect but thats not how that works. The time keeper starts the 10 count immediately. After the referee seperates the fighter into a neutral corner is when the referee picks up the 10 count from the time keeper.
In the Douglas Tyson fight the time keeper hit ten then after 3 seconds past the referee hit ten. It was a 13 count without a doubt.

 

You might be onto to something, it’s just what I remember being the case. It really doesn’t mean much to me, considering the holy whipping Douglas put on Mike right after and prior.

 

Douglas only got the better of Tyson in the fight as a whole only because them Tokyo ladies dried Tyson out before the fight.
But it was still a 13 count

He got the better of Tyson because he had a better plan. He got beat plain and simple.

 

Tyson did get beat in that sense but technically won the fight but was cheated with a 13 count
