The boxer’s job is to beat the referee’s count of 10.

The only count that matters is the referee’s. A boxer isn’t responsible for looking all around ringside to spot the timekeeper and beat his count. He has to beat the referee’s count of 10 and he did.

Your right about that its not the boxers responsibility but it is the referees responsibility to pick up the count from the Timekeeper. The ref messed up and now it will go down in history as a Tainted win for Douglas.

Historically it has gone down as the biggest upset in sporting history.

The excuse about the count lives only in the mind of Tyson excuse-makers. There’s no asterisk by it in the record books.

Mike got knocked out. Say it with me: Mike got KTFO. The five stages of grief over this passed their sell-by date a few decades ago. Accept it and move on.

I am not denying that, It is what it is. The thing is Tyson lost by an absolute beating of his life officially. In his prime.

Who cares about the referees count, Tyson lost, plain and simple, no fuss, no muss. It's not our fault that Tyson was fumbling looking for his mouthpiece. lol.

I've noticed Mike doesn't bring the dubious long count up as much.

The bottom line is, Mike came back and won the title again. He wasn't what he was in the 80s (never would be), but he was still more than world class and a great fighter. Most champs lose to people they shouldn't (hell, Larry lost to Michael Spinks the first time...big weird one there).

You need good trainers in your corner to keep reminding you of the fundamentals, check out Tyson`s drills on youtube.

Tyson was completely shot when he fought Lewis. Only Tyson's fans thought he had a chance. If Lewis was more assertive, that fight would've been over with in 5rds.

    You do realize
You do realize that fight was promoted by Don King right? If anyone was going to get cheated, more than likely it would've been Douglas.

Well someone forgot to tell the referee that because Douglas recieved a 13 count and only then after he knocked out Tyson.
The fight should have never continued in the first place.

Lewis was waaay too cautious for sure. Manny was swearing at him over it.

I'm not sure Mike would have made it a full 3 if Lewis had been less cautious. The third is when the former started looking pretty damn bad, and that was when I found it obvious he was going to lose, hard.

I’ve never understand why boxing fans do not get that Douglas got up according to the refs count…. He could have gotten up sooner. People act like the fight would have been over if the ref would have not counted longer. That’s total b.s. Douglas followed the refs count- if the ref would have made the count like he was on speed and would have counted super fast Douglas was getting up…… Tyson would have looked a lot better if he would have handled the loss like a man and immediately tried to get a rematch. Not going on about the long count. People don’t get that

I find the "long count" pretty dumb as well. Douglas was fine within five or six seconds, he just did the right thing and took a break. Shoot, he probably knew the round was almost over and did the smart thing.
