What could Johnson have been allowed to accomplish if he'd been white?

I like Rocky Marciano because he’s exciting to watch and had an amazing record

 

sure a big reason like him is because I grew up 10 minutes away from his hometown

I mainly like him because I love the way he responded to adversity. He just had that IT factor. He was as clutch as anyone ever, against highly intelligent hall of famers.

and seriously..who doesn’t like a fighter who could throw 110-120 punches in a round, most of them power punches if he had to?

Well a lot of white fighters weren’t as good as Johnson and Johnson had socio/financial issues throughout.

It wasn’t until 1908 when 30 yo Johnson was finally granted a long overdue shot at the title when Johnson’s financial issues were resolved for a time while also giving Johnson the newly acquired potential to earn so much more.

Dempsey is a fair analogy in part but then Dempsey wasn’t stalled another 5 years on advancing toward and being granted the title shot he received in 1919.

 

He would have chased after black women, finally marrying a black woman, and being thrown in jail in Georgia where mixed race marriages were illegal. After serving two years, he and his wife go to Paris and open up a jazz club which become very famous.
