Not sure if they lost the AJ Usyk fight here in the US. But in general DAZN has some serious issues. They are now getting into PPV when they explicitly said that was not their business. Their production value is indeed the worst of all the boxing media. Now it seems like they just don’t have enough fighters signed to make consistently good fights to justify a subscription. And finally there has been no noticeable improvement with them the last few years, despite them being a supposedly young app. Unless things change quickly, I do see this going out of business within the next 5 years
Funny thing is that they were the answer to PBC "free boxing for all" going PPV for all, and now they're doing the exact same thing.
The business model - for boxing anyway - is very poor. They have overpaid people like Canelo but their model for recouping that money as well as turning a profit has been very poor. Unless it's all just a giant front to wash Russian/Ukranian mob money.......
I'm only keeping it 'cause it's just $1.99/month where I live, but if it were any higher I 'd cancel for sure.
very weird, it is worth it if youre into other sports as well though, still charge for the Canelo fights. Just don't pay for them I guess? it's still a good app
In the U.S., the ‘other sports’ it has include darts and snooker (those are called recreational activities as they can be performed just as well while drinking a beer or three), women’s euro soccer and skateboarding as well as a few other super niche minor sports. Not the kind of thing anyone I know is going to pay for. If they wanted to make a mark in the U.S. they should have outbid Amazon for Thursday night NFL, some college conference football and basketball, third-tier rights to some MLB and things like that. But they offer nothing that a U.S. sports fan would consider worthwhile. And now the boxing they have that’s worth seeing you have to give them PPV money for. No thanks.
Will probably cancel it and only order it when there's a fight worth watching. Used to be such a better value when it first started.
even all these streaming services have been raising prices without quality content. you figure they'd actually lower prices during the pandemic i bet they'd have a lot more subscribers? since a bunch are working from home these days, crave is probably the only service worth it
Hardly the same thing. Their only PPV fighter is Canelo. PBC puts Davis, Thurman, and other fighters who in a normal world wouldn't be PPV
I spend money on 100 dollars on DAZN annually, and 72 dollars annually on ESPN+. An average of 14 dollars a month for a year. Showtime charges 10.99 a month BUT you need to also pay a carrier like Direct TV or HULU. As a boxing fan I rather pay for those apps than for cable, satellite, or a bunch of subscriptions that don't show boxing. I would rather it be free but I don't live in.a fantasy world.
Same here...DAZN and ESPN+. Only reason I have ESPN+ is my English son in law watches some soccer on it. DAZN haters missed out on some FOTY type bouts; Conlan-Woods and Catterall-Taylor come to mind. I still think it's worth the price, but I agree the whole initial sales pitch was "No PPV".
