No. He was hyped to the hilt, and the perception was to scare anybody that even thought about challenging him. IMO the Bruno fight burst his bubble, and he was never the same after.
Not unbeatable, but one of the toughest fights for any heavyweight in history of any style, in my opinion.
Not unbeatable but at his best, he has a good chance of winning against just about any heavyweight in history.
Then he is the only athlete in the history of all of sport to have passed his prime before he turned 24 years old without suffering from a rare disease or dying prematurely. The only reason anyone says he’s not prime is because he lost. In that case everyone’s prime is only when they win fights, lol.
You are confusing potential prime with actual prime. They are not synonymous: if a fighter is out of shape, not well focused or training properly, & thus does not perform up to near their potential, that means they were out of their prime. Now all stigma does attach to Tyson for the wild conduct, getting out of shape then losing weight quickly (like Ali when way past it before fighting Holmes)... And nobody is ever unbeatable. It is his own fault, although if better I o not think he beats even that inspired Buster, but we will never know.
Age has got nothing to do with prime. Wrong. Everyone says he wasn't in his prime cause he was no longer the same fighter. His desire to train had slipped and his skillset decreased bigtime after he fired Kevin Rooney.
Prime has to do with physical ability. Whether applied or not. Otherwise, OK, no fighter in the history of boxing ever lost a fight in their prime. Because they could have trained harder or been more focused. Let’s erase all of Tyson’s wins based on same.
