Underrated solid coach never used to rate him that high, but clearly he's now improved to become a excellent coach, one of the best in the country. Cordina- world champ,, Ryder- should have been world champ, Benn - improved loads, Felix Cash, Craig Richards and so on.. & seems to have a really strong bond, family vibe with the fighters in his gym.
I used to think the same that he was just a conditioning coach. But I think over the past 5 years he's been absolutely outstanding in producing good solid professional fighters that also have a very fan friendly style. Comes across as a genuine good guy to J in interviews and podcasts.
Remember Darren Barker saying that he was always studying fighters from the 1950s and he knew boxing history, styles inside out.
Isn't he an ex bank robber? I'm certain his conversation to born again Christian is repenting a criminal past. Good bloke, however. I'm surprised he suffers that wally Connor benn, but he probably sees the side of Connor that is wracked with doubt
You might have him mixed up with Jimmy Tibbs ? Who was indeed a violent criminal then found the big fella. stay safe buddy.
Joshua was progressing far better under Sims than McCracken. I get the whole Team GB comrade thing but Joshua just seemed a bit more explosive until McCracken came along. You can see the same style in Benn; two limited boxers making the best of what they've got.
I saw a great clip of Sims explaining head movement to Benn a while ago. He had a lighter and was moving his hand over the flame, and he was just saying if you leave your hand over the flame it'll burn you, but if you keep moving your hand, you'll be fine. Such a simple explanation, really good communication in my opinion
