I’m always scouring for new stuff - somehow I missed this, uploaded 7 months ago.

Rich The Fight Historian has done it again - high quality treatment.

This doco also contains some of the clearest HLs I’ve ever seen of the Lyle vs Shavers war. What a fight!

Nice piece .. there is a good deal of Lyle clips out there .. he was a very hard guy, a brutal puncher ... I still am shocked at how he froze against Ali when he recovered from much harder looking shots against Foreman and Shavers but it is what it is ..

“Threw a TV at his girlfriend” he also murdered a man after his prison “reforming” I’m beginning to suspect the guy in prison for murder isn’t a nice guy.

If I had to guess, it’s more to do with when in the fight it happened. Against Ali chances are he was sucking wind and mentally just checked out, against Foreman and Shavers he got whacked and was still feeling fit enough to rumble.
Against Foreman he looked more worn out then flat lined too. He had a good beard, but he threw his shots hard to hit hard and paid for it.

How does Rich create so many videos with such high quality so often? He never drops the ball with a video and chooses such underappreciated fighters.

Totally agree. He has a great voice for narrating too.

Watch his video on Robinsons trainer. He himself has credentials, his trainer was the real deal.

I think the fact that Ali pulled the big right hand out of the blue lent to the shock and overall effect of the punch on Lyle.

Ron might’ve been better mentally prepared and physically braced if he was in a punch for punch war like those he had with Shavers and Foreman.

No mistake, Ali’s right hand had some excellent power behind it - but it caught Ron cold in so far as Ali hadn’t thrown anything prior to that that was so badly intended.

Throwing 8/10 to 9/10 bombs each and every time is one thing. But varying your power and whipping out a random howitzer shot is another thing again and can actually be more effective in some cases.

To exemplify this via testimony - Riddick Bowe commented on when Holyfield dropped him in the rubber match - Riddick noted that Evander’s earlier punches hadn’t hurt him so much thereby lulling Riddick into a sense of impunity - then out of nowhere Evander mustered himself and landed the mighty left hook that sat Bowe down hard.

And I believe he was ahead on points too with only 4 rounds to go! So close but so far

During the post IV after his loss to Cooney, Ron basically isn’t bothered to give Larry Merchant the time of day. You can see when Merchant signs off from the IV that he is p*ssed - angry little sh*t, wasn’t he? Maybe he should’ve said to Ron “If I was 20 years younger….”. LOL.

Lunacy! Lyle was a sensitive fistic poet with the heart of a philosopher and the mordant wit of Oscar Wilde. A man too gentle and too wise for this world. Also, he did lots of pushups. Look at those pectorals.

Oscar Wilde did some time in the slammer also, obviously the place for reflection - he didn’t commit the same crime as Ron but bugger me if I can remember what it was.

He also had to walk on a treadmill… which due to his frail health was quite the cruelty. His lover was the son of the man who made the Queensbury rules of boxing.
