I have no idea, other than him being very dangerous puncher.

 

Underrated slightly imo, for hitting with power.

Good puncher with both hands fast and accurate,not the very top level ,but good. Probably the hardest puncher Marciano fought.imo

 

I always cry after seeing the genuine smile on Walcott's face. The dramaturgy of his life equals that of George Foreman's in my opinion.

 

Lots of folks are not in touch with real pain, People see a man do a great athletic feat and they cheer and oo and ahhh but nothing get's me like a guy leaving a piece of himself in the ring. Man, I don't like the HWs for let's say study or enjoying boxing for boxing, but Marciano I can appreciate because of all the times he showed us you can effort your way through ungodly amounts of pain. Compared to the average man he soaked up more then a fellow will take on in one life time within that hour with Walcott. Rocky fought his heart out and it was beautiful beyond boxing. Before Walcott fought Louis, Abe Simon stated Walcott hit harder than Louis did.

I think he's an unrated puncher. There's a lot of praise for his power.

I'd be bold and say the same, and I think that is an unpopular and the debate can go either way. A 38 year old Walcott leading handily on the scorecards going into the 13th round with a 29 year old Marciano (debate the myth of his training if you want Marciano was still a beast of stamina) who in his retirement would praise Walcott as the best he ever fought. I think that says a lot. He had fought a faded but similarly 37 year old Louis just a year prior to Walcott.

 

Very hard.

Walcott has a really bad rep as someone who was inconsistent. But he was a world class operator for 6 years. He got the short stick in a couple of close fights, and inexplicably was beaten by Layne, but he was awesome from 46 to 52 and I think any objective viewer has to only consider this time period for him.

During these 6 years he knocked out 9 men and dropped pretty much everyone else.

His power was legit.

 

Yeah, Walcott beat up Simon in those early rounds, so Simon felt some heavy Walcott's punches. Walcott didn't have the stamina at the time to keep Simon off him, and Simon wore Walcott down with his size and strength. Walcott was gassed out long before Simon crashed the right to his jaw to finish him. When Walcott took the Simon fight in 1940, he was working a full time job to support his family and didn't have much time to train, nor had he hooked up with Boccicchio and Florio yet who provided him with money, management, and world class training.

As for the question for this thread, Walcott could could hit very hard! With both hands.

1st round, first knockdown of Marciano's career. Huge left hook on the button.

11th round, Walcott put Marciano on rubbery legs with a left hook to the head

12th round, Walcott had Marciano in big trouble with a vicious body shot
