I doubt Wills hit as hard as Fulton or Firpo. Brennan scored 49kos in 52 wins, he was a bit more than an average hitter. Someone mentioned Lloyd Marshall? imo he didn't have the chin to hang with Dempsey.Joey Maxim did, but without any power he would have nothing to keep Jack off of him.
Harold Johnson might give him a fight for a few rounds.

Langford was born in 1886 and Dempsey 9 years later in 1895.

 

I think Langford would out box him, out bomb him. Faded Langford was a better boxer and slugger than a Prime Dempsey ever was. Langford was the recurring nightmare of white and black boxers from the Lightweight to the Heavyweight division.

I feel the same, I can't see a dull round in the fight if it were to happen.

 

If a LHW was to have beaten him, or could have, I would imagine it would be a mover, Conn, Jones, Toney, Loughran, cant see the aggressive walk forward type of LHW standing much of a chance of toppling Dempsey.
If pushed, thinking he would turn back all attempts.

If they were to slug it out, Dempsey destroys him.

Strong Statement. Any particular reason why you believe this? Also, since when did Dempsey take Fulton's punch when the fight lasted a mere 20 seconds?

Wills fought Fulton in an eliminator winning by KO and breaking several of Fultons ribs in the process.

Wills fought Firpo at an advanced age of 35 + and won easily. Wills had surgery on his hands earlier in the year and was cautious to take chances and risk breaking them which is why he failed to knockout Firpo. Still, Wills staggers Firpo on rubber legs with a left jab, he also drives him off his feet with a right hand wallop. Wills also tosses and manhandles Firpo around the ring like a rag doll, and Firpo was supposed to be known for having super strength.

Did Fulton and Firpo hit harder than Wills? I highly doubt it.

 

Back to Harry Greb. Does he have a strong shot here? Greb chased after a title fight Dempsey, I believe signed to fight him more than once, and instead Dempsey fought fighters whom Greb dominated.

Again, not quite the same era, since Langford was 9 years older.
And he faced them mostly at the lower weight classes, not at HW, and that makes a big difference.
I think that everyone on this forum will agree that Foreman was nowhere near as skilled as say Moore or Charles. But he can probably beat both on the same night, he will destroy them through sheer power alone.
Same thing applies to Dempsey vs Langford, although in this case I also think Dempsey is more skilled, not just a bigger puncher.

 

But you haven't watched Langford, because you don't know how he defended himself or how long his reach was (which is seen very clearly in all available fights).

Langford had ridiculous longevity, while Dempsey was short primed. Langford faced quite a few opponents that Dempsey faced and he did well against them, even past his prime.

That's false, Langford's HW opposition is significantly better than Dempsey's, you don't need to add lower weights to that.

The problem with this analogy is that:

- Langford had longer reach than Dempsey,
- Langford at his best was only 10 lbs lighter than Dempsey and he fought at Dempsey's weight consistently,
- Langford isn't the weaker puncher,
- Langford isn't less skilled.

Your analogy is stupid.
