Tough crowd! Respect on The Stifler's Mum thread is hard earned.

What was the highlight last night? Darragh Foley back in action was up there. He's a really good Light Welter who our other Light Welters ought to be in with before they put their hands up for a world title shot. I mean, none of Liam Paro, Brock Jarvis or Stevie Spark has faced him. If they want a tough fight that goes the distance & will test them out, they know who to call.

Bangin' Ben Horn was another. He restored faith in Queensland steel as a building product by standing up to the Caboose, Nikita Tszyu & sticking around until the final bell. Bit early to be putting a line through Nikita, I think. I mean, he did look devastating in those first two fights against unbeaten opposition. Horndog didn't launch a foolish assault early like the last bloke did though & escaped the leash to move around the ring for a bit. He was coming in hot off a 10-round Australian title tilt at Welterweight that wasn't televised but that he apparently fought well in so maybe he was better placed to last the distance than he was given credit for. Anyway, family honour is restored as Bangin' Ben becomes the first man to go the distance against the Caboose & actually put it on him in the last round.

The lady fights were okay. Both of the underdogs won I thought although one didn't get the decision.

Sam Goodman looked pretty good to me. Didn't appear to be hurt or drop any rounds to the Filipino. One thing I really like about Australian boxing atm is that we have a fighter in almost every weight division (emphasis on almost) that is capable of fighting for and potentially winning a world title. In some divisions, more than one. Sure, maybe just an alphabet strap, but I don't think we've ever had that in my time as a boxing fan. Sam's our entry at Junior Feather.

I reckon Jeff Horn would be smart to wait for Nikita to get to 10-0 then call him out and try and get some revenge.

 

Wouldn't put it past him. But id laugh if Nikita developed enough to beat him. Wouldn't be a shock... Horn always been a domestic level fighter after all.

 

Yep there are no free rides in the SM Aussie thread. Agreed Benny's chin held up well in there I was expecting him to be doing the electric boogaloo but instead he showed a lot of heart. You are right it is too early to put a line through Nikita as Tim looked pretty ordinary in his first few pro fights but like we have said there is too much pressure for him to be headlining. I don't rate Goodman at all he is a KO waiting to happen also the poor bloke has a pretty bad hairline for a 23 year old he needs to get to Ashely and Martin ASAP. I wouldn't mind seeing Gallen smash Hodges as long as they stack the card with No Limits top talent.

 

I think the reactions to Nikita are silly. He’s a boxer, they always have more trouble with rough awkward guys. Soliman against Winky? Bika against Ward and Calzaghe? Glen Johnson? Not saying Horn is at that level but he is that style, and it was only six rounds. Nikita got rocked perhaps, so what? Again look at Ward and Calzaghe as they were coming up. I only see good signs, he was keen to fight and got rounds in. He really hurt Horn with body shots, a guy this early in his career throwing body punches like that.. I still think he’s a far better prospect than his older brother.

 

I’d be surprised if Nikita could get near Jeff Horn. Considering he looked evenly matched against an inferior Horn in Ben, who is no where near Jeff. Nikita Tszyu looked ordinary. Got beat up on the inside, and seemingly was allowed to push Horn off every exchange to avoid fighting inside. Didn’t even get called on it. Pretty pathetic from the ref.

 

Have you ever seen Bika? Soliman? Awkward fighters give boxers problems. I’m far more sold on Nikita than I have been previously. He doesn’t mind fighting, he throws good body punches.

 

The problem for Nikita is he was badly hurt against Ben Horn. It doesn’t bode well for plans to step up. He can tighten his defence up but there isn’t much you can do about punch resistance.

 

Ben's early fights were like Ralph (Daniel) getting toweled up at that beach party.

But Glenn must have had Benny boi waxing a lot cars and painting a lot of fences since.

credit to both main event fighters. a couple haters on here must be pissed off and had trouble sleeping after horn showed a warrior performance.
tszyu's effort was credible enough, no need to panic.
who cares if he doesn't get as far as his bro, no need to unleash on him cause of it.
hodges will get murdered by gallen. he doesn't seem to care, he's happy to cop it for the ca$h, lol.

Mateo Tapia is another one with the George Constanza horseshoe pattern. But he rocks the Mexican esè shaved head look pretty well.

 

Across the ditch here, Jerome Pampellone stopped Joshua Francis in the 6th, and by all reports, Andrei Mikhailovich was forced to work hard for his decision victory over Francis Waitai. Didn't catch the action as I was in your guys part of the world (Brisbane via Townsville) flying back to NZ. Pampellone keeps getting mentioned for Opetaia's next opponent which would be madness imo as he should be fighting at LHW as has aready been mentioned, and hopefully we see Mikhailovich in a meaningful fight before the end of the year.

 

Kambosos Haney rematch October 15th Rod Laver Arena Melbourne

 

Pretty pointless. I'm no Haney fan, but Kambosos performance was so garbage that this doesn't warrant a rematch. That's boxing for you.... legal contracts matter more merit.
